Das Krokodil Und Sein Nilpferd: A Wild Ride Through 1979’s Sonic Jungle Alright, buckle up. This album? It’s a trip. Walter Rizzati didn’t just make a soundtrack here—he unleashed a chaotic masterpiece that punches you in the face with its genre-hopping insanity. Stage & Screen? Rock? Pop? Jazz? Latin? Yeah, it’s all crammed into this beast from 1979, and somehow, it works. Mostly. Sort of. Let’s dive in. First off, let’s talk about “Caviar & Lobster.” Holy crap, this track is slick as hell. Imagine walking into some smoky German casino where everyone's wearing too much cologne and sipping champagne like they own the place. That’s what this song feels like—a mix of easy listening vibes and symphonic rock swagger. The strings swell, the bass grooves hard, and there’s this weird sense of class mixed with sleaze. You can practically smell the cigar smoke. I remember this one because it’s so damn smooth yet oddly unsettling, like those fancy parties where you know something shady’s going down but you’re too busy stuffing your face to care. Then there’s “Happy Fists.” What even IS this? It’s got this punchy, almost cartoonish energy—like someone took a boxing match, threw in a circus band, and hit record. The rhythm slaps you around while these jazzy horn blasts keep sneaking up on you. It’s ridiculous, over-the-top, and impossible to forget. Every time I hear it, I picture some poor schlub getting pummeled in slow motion while confetti rains down. Is it genius? Maybe. Is it dumb fun? Absolutely. Rizzati wears too many hats here—he wrote it, arranged it, conducted it—but honestly, who else could pull this mess together? Props to Peter Harenberg for mastering it, though. Without him, this whole thing might’ve sounded like a car crash instead of… well, an organized car crash. The rest of the tracks are hit-or-miss. “Smoothly” lives up to its name, gliding along like butter on toast. “Ciocio-ciociolosa (Anonym)” throws spaghetti at the wall and hopes it sticks. And then there’s “Grau Grau Grau,” which sounds exactly how gray feels—boring, flat, lifeless. Not every experiment lands, folks. But here’s the kicker: Das Krokodil Und Sein Nilpferd shouldn’t work. It’s messy, pretentious, and all over the map. Yet somehow, it does. Like, not perfectly, but enough to stick in your brain like gum under a table. Maybe that’s why it’s stayed buried in obscurity for decades—because no one knows what to do with it. Too weird for mainstream, too wild for purists. So yeah, give it a spin if you’re tired of boring playlists and predictable tunes. Just don’t blame me when “Happy Fists” gets stuck in your head for days. Oh, and hey—if anyone finds out what a krokodil and his nilpferd were actually doing back in ’79, let me know. Something tells me it wasn’t pretty.

подскажите а как этот альбом называется? Это музыка из 70-х где-то. Я ее еще в начале 80-х слышал этот аркестр. Но как называется я не знаю. Это уже переделанная музыка. А как назывался оригинал?

The bassline sounds very similar to Michael Jackson's Don't Stop 'till You Get Enough which also came out in 1979
