- About Me: John Brender is an author and director of the Confucius Institute at Wayne State University in Detroit. He has taught Spanish, Japanese, linguistics, foreign-language teaching methodology, English as a Second Language, and cross-cultural communication. He has also been a corporate trainer. Dr. Brender Holds a Ph.D. in Higher Educational Administration from Michigan State University and an M.A. in Romance Linguistics from the University of Michigan. His current research is focused on international and ethnic student identity at North American universities. He also conducts research on the effects of study abroad experiences.
