13 & God - 13 God

Review by Ronen Manoach

13 & God’s 13 God: A Genre-Bending Odyssey You Didn’t Know You Needed Let’s get one thing straight: 13 God is not your average album. Released in 2005 by the transatlantic supergroup 13 & God—a mashup of Anticon’s leftfield rap wizards and Germany’s indie rock weirdos—it’s a wild ride through genres that shouldn’t work together but somehow do. Rock? Check. Electronic? Yup. Hip-hop with poetic verses you’ll rewind just to catch all the wordplay? Absolutely. Pop hooks sneaking up on you when you least expect it? Oh, they’re there. The brainchild of collaborators like Adam “Doseone” Drucker (the lyrical mad scientist) and Micha Acher (a multi-instrumental wizard), this record feels like a fever dream where indie rock meets experimental beats while someone whispers existential musings into your ear. It’s messy, it’s beautiful, and honestly, it’s kind of genius. Tracks That Stick: Ghostwork and Superman On Ice If I had to pick two tracks that still rattle around in my head years later, it’d be “Ghostwork” and “Superman On Ice.” Let’s start with “Ghostwork,” which kicks off the album like an old-school film projector flickering to life. The track builds slowly—subtle synths, haunting melodies, and Doseone’s voice floating in like he’s narrating some dystopian bedtime story. There’s something about the way the layers stack up here; it’s like watching clouds shift shapes. By the time the beat drops, you’re already hooked. It’s moody without being pretentious, experimental without losing its soul. Then there’s “Superman On Ice,” which might as well come with a warning label for how hard it hits. Markus Acher’s guitar licks give it an almost surf-rock vibe, but don’t let that fool you—this isn’t beach music. Jel’s drum programming adds a stuttering, off-kilter rhythm that makes you feel like you’re skating on thin ice yourself. And Doseone? He’s spitting bars so sharp they could cut glass, weaving metaphors that leave your brain scrambling to keep up. This song sticks because it refuses to sit still. One minute it’s playful, the next it’s heavy as hell, and by the end, you’re not even sure what hit you. Why Does 13 God Still Matter? What makes 13 God special isn’t just the genre-blurring chaos or the insane amount of talent packed into every track—it’s the way it captures a moment in time when boundaries were begging to be broken. In 2005, the world was still figuring out what post-internet music could sound like, and this album feels like a snapshot of that era’s creative explosion. It’s raw, unpolished, and brimming with personality—the kind of project no algorithm could ever replicate. But here’s the kicker: listening to 13 God today feels less like nostalgia and more like rediscovering an old friend who’s weirder and wiser than you remembered. It’s the musical equivalent of finding a dusty VHS tape in your attic and realizing it’s secretly a masterpiece. So yeah, if you haven’t heard 13 God, go listen to it. But fair warning—it might mess with your playlists forever. And hey, maybe that’s exactly what we need right now.

Was given this album in maybe 2005 by a guy who got it from his brother and lord knows where he got it from. Thankful I was fortunate enough to hear this song it's one of my all time favorites just listening to it tonight for the first time in years. It makes me sad that more people haven't had the chance to hear this song just a real beauty of a song

but thank you a lot for these reduced lines, hitting my core and giving me some kind of comfort in taking my time. Means a lot!
