Review by Zach Smith

Take Two by 6th Sense Approach: A Techno Time Capsule That Still Hits Man, Take Two is one of those albums that just sneaks up on you. Released in '96 under Belgium's Re-load Records, this thing feels like a late-night drive through neon-lit streets—equal parts eerie and electrifying. It’s pure techno, but with enough twists to keep your head spinning for days. The track "Gridex" sticks out big time. I mean, how does DJ Kaoz pull off something so hypnotic yet chaotic? The beat builds slow at first, almost teasing you, then BAM—it drops into this relentless groove that feels like it could power an entire city grid (pun intended). You can’t help but move to it, even if all you’re doing is sitting there nodding your head way too hard. And the layers? Damn. Every time you listen, there’s some new detail poking through the mix, like a ghost trying to whisper secrets in your ear. Then there’s "Life Curve," which hits different. Chilling Seb and L. Laret really cooked up something special here. This one starts soft, almost dreamy, but don’t let that fool you—it’s got teeth. About halfway through, the bassline kicks in harder than a caffeine overdose, and suddenly you're not just listening anymore; you’re living inside the damn song. It’s emotional without being cheesy, raw but polished enough to make you wonder how they pulled it off back in the '90s. What makes Take Two stand out isn’t just the music itself—it’s the vibe. These guys weren’t just making tracks; they were crafting experiences. Luc Laret’s electronics wizardry paired with Alan Ward’s mastering gives everything this gritty, analog warmth that digital crap today struggles to replicate. And shoutout to S. Goossens and the rest of the crew—they made sure every track had its own personality while still fitting perfectly into the album’s flow. But honestly, what gets me most about Take Two is how human it feels despite being packed full of machines. Like, yeah, it’s techno, but it never loses sight of the fact that real people poured their souls into these beats. Listening to it now, nearly three decades later, it still sounds fresh. Maybe even fresher than some stuff coming out today. You know what’s wild though? As much as I love this album, I bet half the people who worked on it have no idea how many lives they’ve touched. They probably thought they were just messing around in a studio somewhere in Belgium, chasing vibes and maybe a paycheck. But here we are, years later, still talking about it. Isn’t that kinda beautiful?
