Albert Collins - In Concert

Review by Juan Carlos Pechuan

Albert Collins’ “In Concert” – A Raw, Bluesy Masterclass That’ll Leave You Craving More If you’re a fan of Texas Blues with that unmistakable Albert Collins flair, then In Concert is the kind of album you don’t just listen to—you feel it. Released in 2003 (yeah, I know, feels like yesterday, right?), this live gem was recorded for two labels, in-akustik and Castle Classics, and spans performances from Germany and the UK. And let me tell ya, this ain’t your average studio-polished blues record. Nope. This is raw energy bottled up and poured straight into your ears. Let’s kick things off with “Frosty,” one of those tracks that sticks to your brain like gum on a hot sidewalk. If you’ve ever heard Albert Collins’ signature icy tone, you’ll get why this tune slaps so hard. The guitar work here? Insane. It’s sharp, biting, and somehow smooth all at once—like sipping whiskey on a winter night. Every note feels alive, like Collins is standing right there in the room with you, grinning as he shreds. Plus, the crowd’s energy? Electric. You can almost picture the sweaty, packed venue, everyone losing their minds to his licks. Then there’s “Things That I Used To Do.” Man, this one hits different. It’s slower, moodier, and dripping with soul. Collins’ voice cuts through like a knife, telling stories of love, loss, and regret without needing to spell it out. The way he stretches certain notes makes you stop whatever you’re doing and just listen. Paired with his trademark stinging guitar riffs, this track reminds you why Albert earned the nickname “The Iceman.” By the end, you’re not just hearing music—you’re living it. Props where they’re due: hats off to Michael Au for producing this beast and Bernhard Roessle for keeping the whole thing running smoothly as executive producer. Oh, and shoutout to Peter Eichler—the guy who handled both tech duties and authoring. Dude clearly knows his stuff because the sound quality? Crystal clear. Even the photos by Willi Kuper give the album cover that gritty, authentic vibe. What’s wild about In Concert is how timeless it feels. Sure, it came out in 2003, but these songs could’ve been recorded last week or fifty years ago—it doesn’t matter. That’s the magic of blues, isn’t it? It’s universal. Listening to this album, you realize Albert Collins wasn’t just playing music; he was channeling emotion straight from his heart to yours. So, grab yourself a copy if you haven’t already. Whether you’re chilling at home or cruising down some backroad late at night, this album will keep you company like an old friend. Just… maybe don’t blast “Frosty” too loud around your neighbors unless you wanna answer questions about what exactly you’re vibing to. And hey, here’s a random thought: if Albert Collins were still around today, I bet he’d kill it on TikTok. Can you imagine him shredding in little 15-second clips? Yeah, I think we’d all hit follow real quick.

Thank you for the great compliments and for viewing!
"for educational purposes only." & educational it is! Thanks for all the info you've provided above. YouTube is a terrific place for hard-to-find recordings, but when I'm looking for something specific, uploads like yours - with lots of details - means that I can say "Eureka!" with confidence, instead of "This might be it..maybe. But I can't be sure; the uploader didn't give any details." Or, worse yet, they didn't even get the song name right. So thanks again; the extra work is appreciated!

love this song. We did a similar song off of this Albert Collins classic. We put our own spin on it. Super bad grooves.

The bass lines and even the main riffs are identical to Driving South! A bit naughty if there wasn't any credit given to Albert from Hendrix. Maybe the laws were more relaxed in those days but still.
