All You Can Eat - With Salad Bar

Review by Jamie Ellington

With Salad Bar by All You Can Eat: A Punk Rock Gut Punch from 1991 Alright, let’s get one thing straight—this ain’t no polished, radio-friendly crap. With Salad Bar by All You Can Eat is raw, unfiltered punk rock that grabs you by the throat and doesn’t let go. Released in ‘91 on Wajlemac Records, this album hits like a boot to the teeth, with Devon Morf’s snarling vocals leading the charge while Danny Buzzard shreds his guitar into oblivion. Bassist Ian Miller and drummer Greg Penn keep the chaos glued together just enough for it not to fall apart completely. And honestly? That’s what makes it so damn good. Now, I gotta talk about two tracks that stuck with me because they’re just too wild to ignore. First up, “I Saw Your Girlfriend In A Movie.” This song is pure venom wrapped in three chords and spitfire lyrics. It’s short, sharp, and leaves a mark—you can practically hear Morf sneering through the mic as he rips into some poor soul who didn’t see this betrayal coming. The energy here feels like someone lit a match in a room full of gasoline. By the time the track ends, you're left breathless, wondering how something so simple could hit so hard. Then there’s “Family Matters,” which sounds less like a sitcom theme and more like an angry teenager screaming at their parents after dinner went sideways. The bassline groans under the weight of frustration, while the drums hammer away like a heartbeat racing out of control. There’s no sugarcoating it; this tune is messy as hell, but that’s exactly why it works. It’s real, ugly, and relatable in all the worst ways. If you’ve ever had family drama explode in your face, this track will feel like therapy for your rage. The rest of the album isn’t slouching either. Tracks like “This Die-Cast Metal Has Life” and “Big OP:Min” bring their own brand of gritty weirdness, proving these guys weren’t afraid to mix humor and hostility in equal doses. Sure, the production might sound like it was recorded in someone’s garage (and maybe it was), but that only adds to the charm. Punk’s supposed to be rough around the edges anyway, right? Here’s the kicker though: listening to With Salad Bar, you start thinking about how much punk has changed since the early ‘90s. Back then, bands like All You Can Eat weren’t trying to reinvent the wheel—they were smashing it to pieces and laughing while doing it. These days, most “punk” acts are watered-down versions of what came before them. Listening to this record reminds you what made punk dangerous in the first place: it didn’t care if you liked it or not. So yeah, With Salad Bar is a chaotic masterpiece—not perfect, not even close, but unforgettable in its own sloppy, pissed-off way. Just don’t expect any happy endings here. Oh, and fun fact? Apparently, the band broke up shortly after releasing this gem. Figures. Sometimes the best things self-destruct before anyone realizes how great they were. Guess that’s punk for ya.

Interesting fact about Album

Here’s a fun fact: The 1991 punk rock album *With Salad Bar* by All You Can Eat is like a hidden gem from the early '90s. It’s got this raw, unpolished energy that screams DIY punk. Devon Morf’s lead vocals paired with Danny Buzzard’s guitar riffs make it feel like you’re at a chaotic house show. And how cool is it that they named one of their tracks *I Saw Your Girlfriend In A Movie*? Feels like something straight out of a teen movie soundtrack, but way more rebellious.

This song was on a comp CD that I lost about ten years ago, vaguely remembered. Came to me in a dream last evening. Hearing it again is triggering my 20something PTSD.

Their album art looks like Suicidal Tendencies as drawn by the animators of Go Speed Racer. :)
