Review by Christopher Rollyson

Alright, let’s dive into Experiments Guitar By Arun Amin. This album came out in 2007 under Om Music and Aurovision Inc., and it's a cool little mix of New Age vibes with some indie rock grit. It’s not your typical Indian music release—this one leans more acoustic but still has that experimental edge. I mean, the dude named it Experiments Guitar, so you kinda know what you're signing up for. The tracklist is packed with names like Ganesha, Pondicherry, Celebration, and Gayatri. But two tracks really stuck with me: Locomotion Texas and Traveller Of The Worlds. Let me tell ya why. First up, Locomotion Texas. Man, this one feels like a road trip through someone else's mind. You got these groovy guitar riffs that feel both laid-back and super charged at the same time. Like, it's the kind of song where you think, "Okay, I could totally drive across Texas to this," even if you've never been to Texas in your life. There’s something about how Arun blends those acoustic strums with an almost electric energy—it pulls you in without trying too hard. Feels raw, real, and unpolished in the best way possible. Then there’s Traveller Of The Worlds. Honestly, this track hit different. It’s got this ethereal vibe, like you’re floating between dimensions or something. The guitar work here is intricate, almost meditative. Every note seems deliberate, as if Arun was painting a picture rather than just playing music. And yeah, maybe it’s the title getting to me, but halfway through, I swear I felt like I’d stepped into another world. Weird? Maybe. Awesome? Definitely. One thing I noticed is how seamless the genres blend on this album. Indie rock meets acoustic meets New Age spirituality—it’s not something you hear every day. Tracks like Agni and Om Chant lean heavier into that spiritual side, while stuff like Karna brings back the rock vibes. It’s wild how he makes it all fit together without sounding forced. Now, full disclosure—I’m no music critic, but I do know what sticks with me. And for whatever reason, Experiments Guitar stayed on repeat for days after I first heard it. Maybe it’s because Arun doesn’t overthink things; he just lets the guitar speak for itself. Or maybe it’s because the whole thing feels so personal, like we’re listening to his private jam sessions. Anyway, here’s the kicker: after finishing the album, I couldn’t help but wonder if Arun ever thought about turning Locomotion Texas into a full-blown surf-rock anthem. Like, imagine adding some twangy vocals and slapping it onto a playlist next to Dick Dale? Just saying—it could work! So yeah, if you’re into music that takes risks without taking itself too seriously, give Experiments Guitar By Arun Amin a spin. Who knows? You might find yourself traveling worlds—or at least vibing out in your car pretending you’re cruising through Texas.

  • Unbelievable sounds on the acoustic guitar. Like Santoor, Sitar, Ektara, and Rubab. A breeze of vibrational strains of East and West recorded impromptu, without any over-dubbing.

A pioneer of Pop Music in India, Arun Amin has the distinction of releasing on of the first records of western music featuring his compositions in India. In 1972, when Jimmy Page and Robert Plant of Led Zeppelin came to Bombay to record their songs with Indian musicians, Arun Amin had the pleasure to compose for them arrangements of fusions of Indian and Western Music. Amongst his admirers are pandit Ravi Shankar and Ustad Shamin Ahmed Khan. Pandit Ravi Shankar used Arun Amin's composition Sitar Man in his biographical film "RAGA". The single Sitar Man & Yoga Way has the distinction of being the second record in the world of music - close on the heels of Beatles's Norwegian Wood - which had blending of Indian Ragas and Western Music a fusion of Indian melodies and western music's harmony, featuring sitar, tablas, guitar and drums.
