The Hawkwind Remixes by Astralasia: A Psychedelic Odyssey You Didn’t Know You Needed Alright, buckle up, space cadets. If you’re into music that feels like it was beamed straight from the cosmos and smacked onto a record with reckless abandon, The Hawkwind Remixes by Astralasia is your jam. Released in 2007 under UK label Voiceprint, this album’s a heady cocktail of electronic wizardry and rock’n’roll grit, laced with enough psychedelic vibes to make even the most stoic listener question their life choices. Let’s get one thing clear—this isn’t just some lazy remix job where they slapped a drum machine over old tracks and called it a day. No sir. Swordfish (the producer, recorder, mixer—you name it) clearly had a vision here. The whole shebang reeks of effort, creativity, and maybe a touch of extraterrestrial inspiration. And hey, when you’ve got genres like Electronic and Rock colliding with styles like Psychedelic Rock and Trance, you know you’re in for something wild. Now, let’s zoom in on two standout tracks because, honestly, there’s too much goodness to unpack all at once. First up, we’ve got “Assassins (Of Allah)” (Original Majick Carpet Mix 1993). Whoa, hold onto your hats, folks. This track hits like a neon-lit spaceship crash-landing into a desert rave. It’s chaotic but mesmerizing, kinda like watching an acid trip unfold in real-time. The synths swirl around like demented ghosts while the bassline stomps through the chaos like it owns the place. What sticks with me about this one? The way it builds tension without ever fully letting go—it keeps you teetering on the edge, waiting for that big payoff that never quite comes. Frustrating? Maybe. Addictive? Absolutely. Then there’s “Uncle Sam’s On Mars” (Recorded Live At Hawkfest 2002). Oh man, this one’s a beast. Imagine being crammed into a sweaty festival tent, surrounded by weirdos in tie-dye, as this monster of a track explodes out of the speakers. There’s a raw energy here that studio versions can’t touch. The live drums are punchy, the vocals sound like they’re being shouted through a megaphone made of tin foil, and the whole thing has this gloriously unhinged vibe. Like, yeah, Uncle Sam is on Mars, and he brought his freakin’ laser guitar. I mean, what more could you want? Look, I won’t lie—this album ain’t gonna be everyone’s cuppa tea. Some might find it messy, disjointed, or just plain bonkers. But isn’t that the point? Music should take risks, push boundaries, and occasionally leave you scratching your head wondering what the hell just happened. That’s exactly what The Hawkwind Remixes does. So, final thoughts? Listening to this album feels like stumbling across an alien artifact buried in the sand. You don’t fully understand it, but you can’t stop staring either. Honestly, I reckon if David Bowie and Daft Punk ever collaborated in some alternate universe, it’d sound a lot like this. Or maybe not. Who knows? All I know is, next time someone asks me for a recommendation, I’m throwing this bad boy their way—and then running off before they can ask any follow-up questions.

It's an okay tune - think I'd have loved it circa 1993 - but is there really enough of Spirit of the Age in there to classify it as remix rather than something using a couple of samples?
