Album Review: Everyday I Love You by The Avalons – A Ska Treasure from 1966 Man, if you’re into reggae and ska, Everyday I Love You by The Avalons is one of those records that just hits different. Released way back in ’66, this gem came out when Island Records and Tuneico Records were putting Jamaica and the UK on the musical map. And let me tell ya, it still feels fresh today. Mastered by Rukie? That dude knew what he was doing. This album has got soul, grit, and a vibe that makes you wanna move—even if your dancing looks like a drunk octopus. Now, I gotta talk about the tracks “Everyday” and “I Love You.” These two stick with me for totally different reasons. “Everyday” is like sunshine bottled up in a song. It’s bouncy, kinda carefree, but there’s this undercurrent of hope running through it. Like, no matter how rough things get, every day brings something new to be grateful for. You can’t help but hum along, even if you sound terrible (guilty as charged). Then there’s “I Love You,” which flips the energy entirely. It’s smoother, slower, almost like a love letter set to music. There’s this raw honesty in the vocals—it doesn’t feel polished or fake, more like someone pouring their heart out over a beat. I remember listening to it late at night once, staring at the ceiling, thinking about all those little moments that make life sweet. Kinda cheesy, yeah, but isn’t that what good music does? Makes you feel stuff deep down? The thing about this album is, it doesn’t try too hard. It’s not some flashy production trying to blow you away. Instead, it lets the rhythm and melodies do the talking. Listening to it feels like hanging out with an old friend—you don’t need perfect grammar or fancy words; you just connect. And here’s the kicker—this record reminds me why we listen to music in the first place. Not because it’s trendy or cool, but because it speaks to parts of us we didn’t even know existed. Oh, and fun fact? If you spin this LP loud enough, your neighbors might start skanking in their living rooms. True story. Or maybe they’ll call the cops. Either way, worth the risk. So yeah, give Everyday I Love You a shot. Let it take you back to ‘66, where ska ruled and emotions ran wild. Just don’t blame me if you end up falling in love with it.
