So Hot Cairo by BSide: A Retro Gem That Still Slaps Alright, let’s talk about So Hot Cairo by BSide. This 1985 banger came out on Celluloid Records and floated between the UK, France, and the US like it owned all three countries. It’s this weird but awesome mashup of electronic vibes with hip-hop swagger, dripping with electro-funk feels. If you’re into stuff that’s kinda futuristic but still has its feet planted in some raw beats, this one’s for you. Now, I gotta say, two tracks really stuck in my head after spinning this album—“Cairo (Edit)” and “What I Like (Full Blown Mix).” “Cairo (Edit)” is just… smooth chaos. The track kicks off with these synthy waves that feel like you’re walking through a neon-lit city at night, except the city is Cairo? Or maybe not? Honestly, I don’t know what the deal is with the title, but who cares when the groove hits so hard? There’s this funky bassline that sneaks up on you, and then BAM—it locks you in. You can’t help but nod your head or tap your foot. Feels like someone took '80s dance floors and bottled them into four minutes of pure magic. Then there’s “What I Like (Full Blown Mix),” which is absolute fire. This version takes the original vibe and cranks everything up to eleven. The beat switches are wild, and there’s this recurring vocal snippet that just loops in your brain forever. It’s playful, kind of cheeky, and straight-up fun. Like, imagine if robots decided to throw a block party—that’s the energy here. Every time I hear it, I’m like, "Man, why don’t they make songs like this anymore?" The rest of the album ain’t bad either. Tracks like “So Hot” keep things spicy, while the other versions of “What I Like” show how versatile BSide could get. But honestly? Listening to this record feels like being handed a mixtape from another dimension—a dimension where electro meets funk meets hip-hop without overthinking itself. Here’s the thing though: as much as I love So Hot Cairo, part of me wonders if anyone back in ’85 actually got it. Was it too ahead of its time? Or was everyone too busy breakdancing to Run-D.M.C.? Either way, it’s cool now. And yeah, sure, it might sound dated compared to today’s super-polished tracks, but isn’t that the charm? Final thought: If aliens landed tomorrow and asked me to explain human music using only five albums, So Hot Cairo would probably be one of ‘em. Not because it’s perfect—but because it’s real.

It was released in the UK, France, and the US under the label Celluloid. What’s wild is that it featured multiple versions of the same track—like "What I Like," which had both a "Full Blown Mix" and an "American Dreams" remix. 1985 will be historically known as the transition of musical forms. Whether it's dance, rock, island, punk, or soul, it was the tipping point for all genres for some strange reason.

I am so happy I found this! I'm 55...worked in a record store for 5 years through high school end first year of college at ASU in Arizona. !982 to 1987. Luckiest teenager and Most Fun job ever!! I got this record for free from the vendor as a demo...but there was only a tiny notch on the corner or the cover!!!! I recorded it on tape as soon as I got home on the best Maxell XLII IEC Type II i Cassette. Then I ripped it from cassette to mp3 like 18 years ago. Listening to it here and there but had a dream and had to go to YouTube because I am older now and Lazy [ :-) ]
