Beppe Barilli - Computer Disco

Review by Out Loud P.R.

Computer Disco by Beppe Barilli: A Neon-Splashed Trip to the Year 2000 Let’s cut straight to it—Computer Disco is one of those albums that grabs you by the collar and pulls you into its own little universe. Released in 2000 under Italy’s 20 Speed Records, this electronic gem feels like a time capsule from an alternate future where Trance and Italodance ruled supreme. It’s not perfect, but damn if it doesn’t make you feel something. First off, let’s talk about “Computer - Disco (File Wav Extended Mix).” Oh man, this track hits hard. Right from the start, there’s this pulsating beat, like your heart trying to keep up with the rhythm of some sci-fi dreamworld. The synths swirl around like neon lights on a rainy night, and before you know it, you’re lost in the groove. What sticks with me? Probably how raw and unapologetic it feels. You can tell Beppe Barilli wasn’t aiming for perfection here—he just wanted to create something alive. And he did. Every time I hear that bassline drop, it’s like being zapped back to a sweaty club somewhere in Milan, surrounded by strangers who somehow feel like friends. Then there’s “Computer - Disco (Techno Computer Extended Mix),” which flips the vibe completely. If the first track is all chaos and euphoria, this one’s more methodical, almost hypnotic. The arrangement, courtesy of Marco Micolo, layers sounds so cleverly that you don’t even realize how deep you’re sinking until it’s too late. There’s this moment halfway through where everything drops out except for a single synth line—it’s haunting, kinda lonely, but also strangely comforting. Like when you’re walking home late at night and the city feels both massive and intimate at the same time. The rest of the album follows suit, blending high-energy beats with these moments of introspection. Sure, some tracks blur together after a while, but isn’t that part of the charm? Computer Disco doesn’t try to reinvent the wheel; instead, it polishes the hell out of it and gives you four versions of the same ride. Sometimes, that’s exactly what you need. What really ties this whole thing together is the artwork by Filippo Vezzali. It’s simple yet striking—a pixelated nod to the digital age without overdoing it. Paired with the executive production chops of A. Nocera, B. Barilli, and G. Montanini, the album has this cohesive energy that makes it feel intentional, even when it gets messy. So yeah, Computer Disco might not be groundbreaking, but it’s memorable as hell. Listening to it now, two decades later, it’s wild to think about how much has changed—and how much hasn’t. We’re still obsessed with technology, still chasing that next big high, still dancing like nobody’s watching. Maybe that’s why this album resonates so much. Or maybe it’s just because “File Wav FM Mix” slaps ridiculously hard. Final thought? This album reminds me of what my buddy once said after a long night out: “You know what? Tomorrow’s gonna suck, but tonight was worth it.” Cheers to that.
