Album Review: Instrumental Demonstration Of Death Noise by Mark Solotroff Mark Solotroff’s Instrumental Demonstration Of Death Noise is not for the faint-hearted. Released in 1995 under BloodLust!, this album dives headfirst into the chaotic depths of noise music, an abrasive yet oddly captivating subgenre of electronic soundscapes. Hailing from the US, Solotroff crafts a listening experience that feels like staring into an abyss—one that stares right back at you. The album opens with "45 Minutes Of Rape And Murder," and boy, does it set the tone. This track assaults your senses, blending distorted tones and industrial clamor to create something both horrifying and mesmerizing. It's the kind of piece that makes you question why you're even listening—but you can't stop. The sheer relentlessness of it sticks with you long after the final note fades. You might find yourself wondering if what you just heard was art or auditory punishment, but maybe those two aren’t so different after all. Then there’s "The First 45 Minutes After A Violent Death." If the title doesn’t grab you, the sounds will. This one feels less aggressive than its predecessor but no less unsettling. Imagine being trapped in a room where every creak, buzz, and hum amplifies your unease. That’s this track. Solotroff layers dissonant frequencies over unpredictable rhythms, creating tension without resolution. It’s haunting—not because it’s spooky, per se, but because it mirrors the chaos of trauma itself. This record isn’t polished or pretty, nor does it pretend to be. Its rawness is its strength, forcing listeners to confront discomfort rather than escape it. And while some may dismiss it as “just noise,” anyone willing to engage with its intensity will discover surprising depth beneath the surface. Reflecting on Instrumental Demonstration Of Death Noise, I’m reminded of how music can challenge us in ways other mediums can’t. Sure, it’s jarring, but isn’t life too? Maybe that’s the point. Or maybe Solotroff just really likes making people squirm. Either way, this album stays with you—not always comfortably, but undeniably. P.S. Listening to this while trying to relax? Bad idea. Trust me—I tried.
