About Carpenters

American vocal and instrumental duo consisting of sister Karen, and brother Richard Carpenter.
Carpenters were the #1 selling American music act of the 1970's. Though often referred to as "The Carpenters," their name on official releases and press materials was "Carpenters." During a period in the 1970's when louder and wilder rock was in great demand, Richard and Karen produced a distinctively soft musical style that made them among the best-selling music artists of all time.
Originally from New Haven, Connecticut, their parents decided to move the family west to Los Angeles, California. Richard and Karen originally played jazz, with Karen having an interest in playing the drums. They were briefly known as Spectrum and then Carpenters, where they then recorded for a small label, . In their move West, they met Lou Adler who introduced them to , who signed them to his label, in 1969.
While Richard penned compositions with writing partner, , many of the duos' hits were written by others and some were cover versions of established hits for other artists, such as and Motown's, . Their 1973 album, "Now and Then." B-side consists of a 9-song medley of 60's hits recorded like a radio show.
Carpenters' melodic pop, produced a record-breaking run of hits on the American Top 40 and Adult Contemporary charts, and they became leading sellers in the soft rock, easy listening and adult contemporary genres. Carpenters had three #1 singles on the Billboard Hot 100 and fifteen #1 hits on the Adult Contemporary Chart. In addition, they had twelve top 10 singles (including their #1 hits). To date, Carpenters' album and single sales total more than 100 million units.
During their 14-year career, Carpenters recorded 11 albums, five of which contained top 10 singles ("," "," "," "" and ",") thirty-one singles, five television specials, and one short-lived television series. They toured the United States, United Kingdom, Japan, Australia, The Netherlands and Belgium. Their recording career ended with Karen's death in 1983 from cardiac arrest due to complications of anorexia nervosa. Extensive news coverage of the circumstances surrounding her death increased public awareness of the consequences of eating disorders.

JERK ASS brother!
i'm 70 now and every time i watch you and hear that beautiful voice ,i have tears in my eyes , you truly had the voice of an angel , and hopefully that's what you are know .God bless you darling your songs will go on and on .
Nobody has ever ever matched her voice! I love her and all the songs!! I saw them in Vegas in 1978!! Glad I did, great show!!!
What? No "autotune"?! Pure talent right here. Same with the "pointer sisters," and not to many others.
As liquid velvet as someone said. Amazing voice!
Richard must not be forgotten - both R&K created iconic music. My teenage years were all Carpenters at one end of the spectrum and then Santana at the other end
Karen had the voice of an Angel. Richard is a musical genius.
I feel so bad for Karen being so sad & not having self confidence, I wish she had been happy & found someone who really loved her. Love you Karen
One of the best pop songs in history in my opinion. Richard is a genius song writer and arranger. Karen has an amazing voice that you know as soon as she begins singing. The world will never have another DUO like that. Karen an Angelic gift from above. ?️
The weight of this video is astounding.
This song & Superstar are so hauntingly beautiful, Karen always looked so sad. Amazing voice & Richard is a genius.
Back in the day there were very few weddings that did not have this song featured. As beautiful as the music is, the words are just as powerful.
I love this song, I sing too and I sing all of Karen Carpenter's songs..I was about 7 or 8 years old..
shame. because she didnt eat food her body looked diformed. poor wench
To the person that reads this, I ask the Lord to bless them and their family, to cure them of every sickness and pain, to fill their emptiness with love joy and peace, to rebuke the enemy from their lives. " ASK JESUS TO COME INTO YOUR HEART AND SAVE YOU, AND TO FORGIVE YOU OF YOUR SINS, FOR WE GIVE THANKS AND GLORY TO THE LORD. IN THE MIGHTY NAME OF JESUS CHRIST AMEN!
Thumbs up if 1408 permanently ruined this song for you.
Miss you.
Room 1408 ist the god damn best Film i've ever seen in my entire life. This Song gives me goosebombs...
I'm 70. They're still my favorite.
