Coco - I Need A Miracle

I Need A Miracle by Coco: A Chaotic, Genre-Bending Beast That Still Slaps Let’s get one thing straight—Coco’s I Need A Miracle isn’t your average electronic album. Released in ‘97 across Australia, the UK, US, Netherlands, and Italy, this record is like a musical Frankenstein stitched together from Hardcore Rap, Speed Garage, House, Downtempo, Breakbeat, Progressive House, Trance, and more. Yeah, it’s all over the damn place—but somehow, it works. The masterminds behind this chaos are Rob Davies and Victor Imbres, who wrote and produced most of it, with Tim Orford mixing and engineering their wild ideas into something listenable. Then you’ve got Qattara throwing down remixes so sharp they could cut glass. Labels like Positiva, EMI, and Greenlight Recordings backed this project, which tells you someone believed in its potential—even if it feels like it was made for no one and everyone at the same time. Now let me break it down for ya. There are about twenty tracks here (seriously), but two stand out like neon graffiti on a dark alley wall: “I Need A Miracle (Breakbeat Mix)” and “I Need A Miracle (Qattara Remix).” The Breakbeat Mix hits hard right outta the gate. It’s raw, relentless, and unapologetically aggressive—like someone took a sledgehammer to a drum machine and said, "Make beats now!" The rhythm punches you in the chest while these haunting vocals float above like ghosts trying to escape. You don’t just hear this track—you feel it. Every kick drum lands like a gut punch, every synth line claws at your brain. This ain’t background music; it demands attention. If I had to pick one moment that screams “1997,” this would be it. It’s messy, chaotic, and absolutely brilliant. Then there’s the Qattara Remix. Holy hell, this version flips the script entirely. Where the original mix leans gritty and industrial, Qattara smooths things out, adding layers of lush pads and dreamy melodies. But don’t mistake “smooth” for weak—this remix still packs a punch, especially when those basslines drop. It’s like being pulled underwater, weightless yet suffocating, as ethereal vocals swirl around you. Halfway through, though, everything drops out except for a single heartbeat-like kick drum before exploding back into full force. That dynamic shift? Pure genius. What makes these tracks unforgettable is how different they are from each other. One’s an adrenaline-fueled banger meant to blow up speakers, while the other’s a moody masterpiece designed to mess with your head. Together, they showcase the sheer range of what I Need A Miracle can do—and why it still resonates decades later. So yeah, this album's a hot mess—but in the best way possible. It doesn’t care about fitting neatly into one genre or style because it exists purely to push boundaries. Listening to it feels like stepping into a rave where everyone’s high on life, caffeine, or whatever else people were doing in ‘97. And honestly? We need more albums like this today. Music’s gotten too polished, too safe. Give me chaotic energy over boring perfection any day. Final thought: If aliens ever invade Earth, we should blast I Need A Miracle at them. Either they’ll surrender immediately, or they’ll start dancing. Either way, win-win.

About Coco

Original vocalist in the track Tocas Miracle (2000 and 2008 remixes) by German trance project . I Need a Miracle was written specially for Coco in 1994 by Rob Davis and Victor Imbres, at MCA (Universal Music), London. Coco developed the song by altering the melody line in places and creating ad libitum parts. Released on Greenlight Recordings USA in 1996, I Need a Miracle quickly became a favourite track in the underground scene. A second release, with six mixes came about in 1997 on Positiva (EMI). By 1999, it had become the subject of a vastly popular bootleg, the whitelabel Fragma v CoCo Toca's Miracle, a concept credited to DJ Vimto from Nottingham, UK. An official release of this monster hit came about on April 10th, 2000, on EMI/Positiva, selling 170,000 copies in the first week on the EMI territories alone. The ad libitum parts created by Coco open the vocal line of Tocas Miracle. Coco went on to be an in-house writer with DJ Spoonys project DreemTeam, Artful Dodger and Craig David, with a highly successful 2Step hit entitled It Aint Enough, at the same time releasing Take My Advice on Oyster, which entered the pop charts at #20 in 2001. Her collaborative works with Artful Dodger also entered the charts that year in the UK. Coco went on to record Loving Arms (written by Billie Ray Martin) in 2004, again to commercial success, this appears on Now 2004 and Ministry Of Sound compilations. Coco became Coco Star in 2007, and revocalled I Need A Miracle on collaborations with KLM Music, with mixes from Sunflake and Statikshox. Remixes of Tocas Miracle saw Coco credited for her contribution in EMI territories only, as confused record labels in mainland Europe and Australsia printed the booking details and image of another vocalist on the covers (seen on Kontor Records, Germany and Central Station Records, Australia).

Interesting fact about Album

With remixes by talents like Qattara and Victor Imbres, the album feels like a global effort, with releases spanning Australia, the UK, the US, the Netherlands, and Italy.
