Ronnie Sessions - Wiggle Wiggle

Review by Grant Darrah

Album Review: Wiggle Wiggle by Ronnie Sessions (1976) Ronnie Sessions’ Wiggle Wiggle is one of those hidden gems from the mid-70s that feels like it was made for lazy Sunday afternoons and long drives through open country roads. Released under MCA Records in 1976, this folk-infused country album straddles the line between heartfelt storytelling and toe-tapping fun. It’s not perfect, but man, does it have charm. The tracklist might be short, but it packs a punch. Two songs really stand out: “Baby, Please Don’t Stone Me Anymore” and the titular “Wiggle Wiggle.” Let’s talk about “Baby, Please Don’t Stone Me Anymore” first. This tune hits you right in the feels with its raw honesty. The lyrics are simple yet striking—Ronnie sings as if he's pleading directly to your soul. You can almost picture him sitting on a wooden stool under dim stage lights, pouring his heart out. There’s something about the melody too; it lingers long after the song ends, kinda like the memory of an old friend you haven’t seen in years. Then there’s “Wiggle Wiggle,” which flips the mood entirely. If the previous track had you reaching for tissues, this one will get you moving. It’s upbeat, playful, and just plain fun. I mean, how can you not smile at a song called “Wiggle Wiggle”? The rhythm is infectious, and Ronnie’s delivery has this cheeky confidence that makes you wanna grab someone and dance—even if you’ve got two left feet. It’s the kind of song that reminds you why country music used to feel so alive back in the day. What strikes me most about Wiggle Wiggle is how unpretentious it feels. Ronnie doesn’t try too hard to impress; instead, he lets the music speak for itself. Sure, some parts sound dated now, but isn’t that part of its appeal? Listening to this record feels like stepping into a time capsule, where life seemed slower and people weren’t afraid to wear their hearts on their sleeves. If I’m being honest, though, the real kicker here is realizing how underrated Ronnie Sessions remains. How does someone drop an album like this and then fade into obscurity? Maybe it’s because the world wasn’t ready for his mix of vulnerability and wit. Or maybe, just maybe, he didn’t care enough to chase fame. Either way, Wiggle Wiggle deserves more than a dusty corner in the archives of country music history. So go ahead, give it a spin. Just don’t blame me if “Wiggle Wiggle” gets stuck in your head for days. Trust me, it’s the good kind of annoying.

Wiggle, Wiggle by Ronnie Sessions (circa 1976)

I told you not to do that on the dance floor
You said you wouldn't do it in public anymore
Sunday through Friday, boy, you kept it all in
Now it's Saturday night and you're at it again

Wiggle, Wiggle
Uh-honey cut that out
Wiggle, Wiggle
That's what I'm talking about
Wiggle, wiggle
Hey, you're shaking my tree
Our wiggle, wiggle, wiggles going to be the death of me

People think you're after every man in the place
I feel like a turkey with egg on my face
Every time the back beat wacks that drum
Your hips start a swingin like a pendulum

Wiggle, Wiggle
Uh-honey cut that out
Wiggle, Wiggle
That's what I'm talking about
Wiggle, wiggle
Hey, you're shaking my tree
Your wiggle, wiggle, wiggles going to be the death of me

Wiggle, Wiggle
Uh-honey cut that out
Wiggle, Wiggle
That's what I'm talking about
Wiggle, wiggle
Hey, you're shaking my tree
Your wiggle, wiggle, wiggles going to be the death of me

I remember this one...and i liked it...But i liked his later hit "Me and Millie" a lot better...Ronnie seemed to be influence a lot by Jack Blanchard and Misty Morgan's records on this one.
