Review by Heike Aigner

Au Go Go EP by Darren Emerson: A Tech House Banger That Still Slaps Alright, let’s cut to the chase. Darren Emerson’s Au Go Go EP ain’t just another forgettable slice of tech house—it's a UK-born beast that punches harder than most albums from 2011 still do today. Released under Detone Records, this thing is raw, unapologetic, and straight fire for anyone who digs electronic music with grit. First off, you got the title track, “Au Go Go (Darren Emerson Mix).” Man, this one hits like a freight train. It’s dark, moody, and dripping with attitude. The bassline? Filthy as hell. You can practically feel it rattling your guts when cranked loud enough. What sticks in my head about this mix is how Emerson layers those sharp hi-hats over pulsing synths—it’s hypnotic but aggressive at the same time. Like, you don’t just listen to this; it takes control of you. Perfect for smashing out some late-night vibes on the dancefloor or losing your mind alone in your room. Then there’s “Au Go Go (Richard Seelie Mix),” which flips the script entirely. Where Emerson keeps things shadowy and intense, Seelie brings more groove and bounce into play. This version feels smoother, almost playful compared to the original—but don’t mistake smooth for weak. That kick drum kicks ass, and the subtle acid squelches creeping through give it an old-school rave edge. I remember this track because it sneaks up on ya—starts chill, then BAM, you’re hooked before you know what hit you. Paul Loraine’s remix doesn’t grab me quite as hard, though it does its job fine. But honestly? If I’m spinning this EP, I’m sticking with Emerson and Seelie’s takes all day. They’ve got character, bite, and that extra layer of filth that makes tech house so damn addictive. Looking back now, ten-plus years later, Au Go Go EP feels kinda timeless. Sure, tech house has evolved since 2011, but good music never really dies—it just waits for the right ears to rediscover it. And lemme tell ya something: if you haven’t heard these tracks yet, you’re missing out big time. Here’s the kicker though—this EP reminds me why we even bother chasing new music. Sometimes, amid all the noise, you stumble across something that grabs you by the throat and refuses to let go. Funny thing is, while writing this review, I realized... maybe I should stop typing and start dancing instead. Peace.
