Album Review: A Big Yes by Erase Today Erase Today’s A Big Yes is a raw, unfiltered dive into the punk rock scene that feels like a punch to the gut—in the best way possible. Hailing from the UK and Europe, this album doesn’t try to sugarcoat anything or pretend it’s something it’s not. Released under the label jsntgm, it’s a chaotic yet calculated blend of punk energy and rock grit. It’s messy, loud, and full of attitude—just as punk should be. One track that sticks out is “No Apologies.” From the first chord, it grabs you by the collar and doesn’t let go. The vocals are snarling, dripping with defiance, while the guitar riffs hit hard enough to leave a bruise. What makes it memorable? It’s simple but effective—no overthinking, just pure emotion. You can practically feel the sweat and frustration oozing out of your speakers. It’s the kind of song that makes you want to scream along, even if you’re just sitting in your car. Then there’s “Static Hearts,” which takes things down a notch but still keeps the intensity alive. The lyrics here are sharper, almost poetic in their cynicism. Lines like “We’re all just echoes in a broken room” linger long after the song ends. The drumming has this relentless drive that pushes the track forward, making it impossible to ignore. It’s less aggressive than “No Apologies,” but it trades brute force for something more haunting. What stands out about A Big Yes isn’t just its sound—it’s the mood it creates. This album feels like a middle finger to conformity, but also like a conversation with someone who gets it. It’s not perfect; some tracks blur together if you’re not paying attention, and yeah, the production could’ve been cleaner. But honestly? That rough-around-the-edges vibe works for it. In the end, A Big Yes feels less like an album and more like an experience. Listening to it is like flipping through a worn-out photo album of someone else’s rebellion. And maybe that’s why it stays with you. Or maybe it’s because you’ll find yourself humming “No Apologies” at random moments, wondering why you suddenly feel so fired up. Unexpectedly, though, I found myself thinking: if punk rock had a therapist, would it still sound this angry?

About Erase Today

Erase Today started up in Blackpool, England in November 1991 and split in split after opening the inaugural Holidays in The Sun gig in Blackpool in August 1996. The actual name of the band came from a track by a band called Husker Du which was featured on a compilation album called The Blasting Concept. The first incarnation of the band consisted of Joe Delaney (drums) Steve White (bass) and Andy Higgins (guitar and vocals). Erase Today released Age of Unreason (91) Economic Prison (92) Velocity to Connect (94) A Big Yes and A Little No (95) London New York the World (96) Colour Sound and Vibration (97) on their own Just Say No To Government Music (JSNTGM) label. Erase Today only played towns and cities around the North of the UK and played with bands such as Green Day, Nation of Ulysees, Econochrist, NO FX, Offspring, Leatherface, Guns n Wankers, Blaggers etc. Erase Todays Blackpool gigs were always high energy affairs which on more than a few occasions unfortunately descended into violence & and with this growing reputation in the local press a lot of venues understandably were very reluctant to stage the band. Erase Todays line up always seemed to be in a constant state of flux, people who played in the band at avriuos times were Rat (drums) Dr Alan Pill (bass) Rabid Dave (bass) Mark Oneill (bass).
