The Gaslight Anthem - Tumbling DiceShe Loves You

The Gaslight Anthem’s Tumbling Dice / She Loves You EP: A Punk Rock Love Letter That Packs a Punch Alright, let’s cut to the chase. The Gaslight Anthem dropped this little gem back in 2010, and while it might just be two tracks long (yes, technically an EP), it feels like a full-on rock 'n' roll gut punch. Released under SideOneDummy Records in the UK, this thing is pure punk-rock grit with a heart as big as Bruce Springsteen’s discography. First up, we’ve got “Tumbling Dice,” their take on the Rolling Stones classic. Now, covering the Stones is kinda like trying to reinvent pizza—it better bring something new or why bother? And guess what? These Jersey boys nail it. They don’t just slap some distortion on Mick Jagger’s swagger; they infuse it with that raw, working-class soul they’re known for. Brian Fallon’s voice cracks and strains over the driving guitars like he’s lived every word of it. It’s not perfect—there are moments where you can hear the seams showing—but that’s exactly why it works. It feels alive, man. Like someone spilled beer on your shoes but apologized with a killer story. Then there’s “She Loves You,” which ain’t the Beatles tune you’re thinking of—it’s another original from The Gaslight Anthem. This one sticks because it’s so unapologetically romantic in that messy, tattooed-arm kind of way. Fallon sings about love like it’s both his salvation and his curse, all while the band cranks out chords loud enough to rattle your ribs. There’s no fancy production tricks here, just four dudes playing their hearts out like they’re headlining a dive bar at 2 a.m. And honestly? That’s all you need. What makes this EP memorable isn’t just the music—it’s how real it feels. You listen to these songs, and you can almost smell the stale cigarettes and cheap whiskey clinging to the walls of whatever venue they recorded in. It’s scrappy, heartfelt, and more than a little rough around the edges—but damn if it doesn’t leave a mark. So yeah, Tumbling Dice / She Loves You might only clock in at two tracks, but it punches way above its weight. If punk rock had a yearbook, this would definitely win “Most Likely to Make You Cry in Your Car.” Weird flex, I know, but hey—that’s The Gaslight Anthem for ya. Oh, and fun fact: apparently, the drummer once said he thought this release was “just a warm-up” for bigger stuff. Dude, if this is warming up, I’d hate to see what happens when they go full throttle. Or maybe I’d love it. Either way, count me in.

Interesting fact about Album

Here’s a fun fact: The Gaslight Anthem, known for their punk-infused rock sound, released a unique album in 2010 called *Tumbling Dice/She Loves You*. It features just two tracks—covers of The Rolling Stones’ “Tumbling Dice” and The Beatles’ “She Loves You.” What makes it cool? They took these iconic songs and gave them a raw, gritty twist, staying true to their punk roots. Released in the UK under SideOneDummy Records, this little gem shows how one band can pay homage to rock legends while making the songs entirely their own.

This cover is beyond cool. Very clever arrangement. Without an strong drum beat, the piano can be heard and there is a massive acoustic feel. The solo makes you fly. What a band!

Thanks, that really should have occurred to me. My brain was missing. Answer to myself: very similar, but Brian's voice seems just a tad smoother.

One of my favourite bands to come out of the 00's doing my favourite Stones' track. I feel very lucky right now. I'll probably cry if they play this at Reading.
