Album Review: "You're The One" by Guerilla Black Featuring Mario Winans Released in 2004 under Virgin and Czar Entertainment, You're The One is a hip-hop gem that blends pop rap and R&B/Swing influences into an engaging sonic experience. Produced by the talented Mario Winans, this album manages to carve out its own lane with polished production and heartfelt lyricism. It’s not perfect, but it sure leaves a mark. The titular track, “You’re The One (Explicit),” stands out as one of those songs you can’t help but remember. Over a lush beat crafted by Winans, Guerilla Black delivers smooth verses that feel both confident and vulnerable. The chemistry between his flow and the soulful undertones makes it stick. You know how sometimes a song just clicks? This is one of those moments. Whether it's the way he rides the beat or the raw honesty in his delivery, there’s something about this version that feels timeless. Another standout is the instrumental take on “You’re The One.” Stripped of vocals, it highlights the brilliance of Mario Winans’ production work. The melody shines through without overpowering itself, giving listeners room to appreciate the layers beneath the lyrics. Listening to it feels like peeking behind the curtain—unexpectedly satisfying and kinda refreshing. Credit goes to engineer Tommy Jamin and mixer Jason Goldstein for keeping everything tight. They didn’t overdo it, which honestly could’ve been easy given the era’s tendency toward overly glossy sounds. Instead, they let the music breathe. Looking back at You’re The One, it’s clear why it still resonates with fans of early 2000s hip-hop. Sure, some parts might feel dated now, but isn’t that part of its charm? In a world obsessed with chasing trends, albums like this remind us that simplicity done well never really goes out of style. Plus, who would’ve thought an a cappella track would make you hit replay? Guess that’s what happens when talent meets timing.

Without Question everything GB has and does is all owed to BIG undeniably. When you have this kind of talent, skill, and likeness of a Legend it becomes a genuine responsibility to mention BIGGIE in everything you rap and perform on any stage. The dedication to the Legend has to be there if you want to bridge the gap with the old and new so that all people can embrace you for keeping BIGGIEs spirit alive in your music. Its almost scary that someone could legitimately emulate a legend like BIGGIE but Guerilla Black has without question pulled it off and this song is a gem ? for sure.???
