Review by G.T RAO

Blow by Gizo Evoracci: A Raw Dive into French Gangsta Hip Hop Gizo Evoracci's Blow, released in 2011 under the Fish High label, is a gritty and unapologetic journey through the streets of France’s underground hip-hop scene. Falling squarely in the gangsta rap category, this album doesn’t sugarcoat anything—it’s raw, it’s real, and at times, it’s downright uncomfortable. But that’s exactly what makes it memorable. The tracklist reads like a novel, with interludes sprinkled throughout to keep you hooked. It opens with “Intro - Evoracci Rencontre Le Boss,” setting the tone right off the bat. The beat hits hard, and Evoracci’s flow feels confident, almost cocky. You can tell he knows his lane and owns it. One standout track for me is “Dope Boyz Part. I”—a banger that pulls no punches. The production is dark yet smooth, with haunting synths layered over heavy kicks. Evoracci spits bars about street life, ambition, and survival, but there’s an underlying sense of paranoia that keeps you on edge. Lines like these stick with you because they feel lived-in, not written just for shock value. This isn’t glorification; it’s documentation. Another track that stands out is “Cocainologie [L’Ecole du Crime].” If you’re looking for storytelling, this one delivers. Evoracci paints vivid pictures of crime, consequences, and the cyclical nature of hustling. The hook is hypnotic, and the verses are packed with clever wordplay. What makes this song unforgettable is how cinematic it feels—it could easily be the soundtrack to some tense French crime drama. Listening to it feels like peeking behind closed doors, where secrets fester and deals go down. Tracks like “Military” and “French Kiss [remix]” show range without straying too far from the core sound. Meanwhile, interludes like “Coeur Brisé” provide brief moments of introspection amidst all the chaos. And let’s not forget deeper cuts like “Irreversible FIN,” which closes things out with a bang—or more accurately, a chilling reminder of the stakes involved in this lifestyle. What struck me most about Blow was its authenticity. Evoracci doesn’t try to be something he’s not. There’s no attempt to mimic American gangsta rap tropes or dilute his French identity. Instead, he embraces his roots while crafting something uniquely his own. Sure, some tracks feel repetitive if you’re not in the mood for relentless intensity, but that’s kind of the point. This isn’t background music—it demands your attention. Here’s the thing though: listening to Blow made me realize how much modern hip-hop often lacks this level of grit. Don’t get me wrong—I love a good trap beat as much as anyone—but sometimes you need an album like this to remind you where it all started. Street tales, sharp lyricism, and beats that slap—that’s what Blow brings to the table. Oh, and here’s a random thought: if someone told me Gizo Evoracci moonlights as a philosophy professor, I wouldn’t even blink. There’s something oddly intellectual about the way he dissects themes of crime and morality. Maybe I’m reading too much into it, but hey, that’s what great art does—it makes you think. In short, Blow might not be for everyone, but if you’re into gangsta rap with substance, give it a spin. Just don’t say I didn’t warn you when you find yourself replaying “Dope Boyz Part. I” on loop.
