Iggy Pop - The Complete Channel Tapes

Review by Paul M.

The Complete Channel Tapes by Iggy Pop: A Raw Punch to the Guts Alright, let’s get this straight—The Complete Channel Tapes ain’t for the faint-hearted. Released in 1995 under The Swingin' Pig label outta Luxembourg, this thing is a gritty time capsule of Iggy Pop at his most unhinged. It’s Alternative Rock meets Hard Rock with enough dirt and sweat to make you feel like you’ve been dragged through a mosh pit. And yeah, it’s messy—but that’s kinda the point. This album's got tracks like Penetration and I Wanna Be Your Dog, which hit so hard they’re still stuck in my skull days later. Take Penetration, for instance—it’s raw, sleazy, and oozes attitude like nobody’s business. You can practically hear Iggy sneering into the mic while the guitar riffs stab you right in the chest. It’s not polished or “perfect,” but who gives a damn? That rough edge makes it unforgettable. Then there’s I Wanna Be Your Dog. Holy hell, this one’s iconic for a reason. It’s primal, repetitive, and just plain nasty in all the best ways. The pounding drums and Iggy’s howl make it sound like he’s begging, pleading, even threatening—all at once. If that track doesn’t light a fire under your ass, check your pulse ‘cause you might be dead. Other standouts include Search And Destroy (obviously) and 1969, both dripping with that classic Iggy swagger we all know and love. But honestly, every song here feels like a punch to the face—or maybe a kick to the gut if you're lucky. Tracks like Kill City and Cold Metal bring the noise, keeping things heavy and relentless from start to finish. Here’s the kicker though—this ain’t some glossy studio production. These recordings are raw as fuck, almost like bootlegs. Some folks might call it sloppy, but screw ‘em. This is real music, man. No filters, no apologies, just pure rock 'n roll chaos bottled up and thrown at your head. And hey, here’s something weird to chew on—Luxembourg? Seriously? Who knew such a tiny country could spit out an album this wild? Makes ya wonder what else they’ve got hiding over there. So yeah, The Complete Channel Tapes isn’t gonna win any Grammys, nor should it. But if you wanna hear Iggy Pop at his most untamed, this is the ticket. Just don’t say I didn’t warn ya when your ears start bleeding halfway through.

Interesting fact about Album

Here’s a fun fact: Iggy Pop’s *The Complete Channel Tapes*, released in 1995, is a raw gem for rock fans. It’s a live album that captures Iggy’s electrifying energy. What’s wild is that it came out in Luxembourg, not the US, on a label called The Swingin' Pig. Tracks like “I Wanna Be Your Dog” and “Search And Destroy” remind you why Iggy’s still the godfather of punk and hard rock. Plus, it’s one of those rare albums that feels like you’re right there in the crowd, even though it’s just tape recordings from back in the day.

Setlist aside, I think Iggy sounds better on this tour than last year's RSD 'Kiss My Blood' recording.
I'm pretty sure this was a king biscuit flower hour radio show that had Andy McCoy from Hanoi Rocks on guitar
I’m glad we got to check out the splatter detail Thanks!

Is Capitalism circa 2014 era vulgaris so satisfying that Anger, Energy, Outrage no longer hold sway on the public stage? Do people really prefer ke$hah and bieber to RAAAAAAAW POWER!

Seems to be a coloured vinyl reissue of the official 1990 France double LP release on Revenge records.

Hey Claude....do you have any more footage from this or any other gig at the International 2? I saw the Ramones there twice in the late 80's & would love to see any footage from those gigs.
