Album Review: Monsta by Jacknife (2016)
Alright, so I’ve been vibin’ to Monsta by Jacknife for a bit now, and lemme tell ya—it’s kinda hard not to get hooked. Released back in 2016 under Club Cartel Records outta Australia, this electro house banger really hits different. It’s the kinda album that makes you wanna clear your living room and turn it into an impromptu rave.
First up, obviously, the title track “Monsta.” Man, this one slaps. Like, straight-up face-melting energy from the first beat. The drop? Insane. Feels like being punched in the chest—but in a good way, ya know? There’s this growly bassline that just doesn’t quit, and those synth stabs are sharp enough to cut glass. Honestly, it’s one of those tracks where you’re like, “Yeah, okay, I’m awake now.” Every time it comes on, I find myself zoning out and just letting the music take over. It’s wild how something so simple can feel so massive.
Then there’s another standout—I think it was Track 3? (Sorry, my memory sucks.) Anyway, this one had this hypnotic build-up with these glitchy little sounds sprinkled all over. Felt like walking through some neon-lit cyberpunk city at midnight. Totally unexpected but super cool. The transitions were smooth as hell too, which is rare ‘cause sometimes producers get lazy with that stuff. Kept me on my toes, for sure.
What I love about Monsta is how raw and unapologetic it feels. No pretentious nonsense here—just straight-up electro house designed to make you move. And yeah, while the whole thing isn’t perfect (some tracks blur together if I’m being honest), it’s still got that Aussie edge that keeps things fresh.
Here’s the random thought I’ll leave you with though: Listening to this album made me realize how much electronic music has evolved since 2016. Like, imagine what Jacknife could do with today’s tech! Would he go full-on futuristic robot beats or stick to his roots? Either way, fingers crossed we hear more from him soon.
So yeah, give Monsta a spin if you’re into high-energy tunes that slap harder than your ex ever did. Cheers!
