Review by Artha Susila

Alright, let’s dive into this beast: Les Grandes Cantates de JS Bach Volume 13. Yeah, it’s another hefty drop from the maestro himself, Johann Sebastian Bach, straight outta France. No surprises there—Bach doesn’t mess around, and neither does this album. It’s on that label, Les Grandes Cantates De J.-S. Bach, which sounds like some kinda fancy wine you’d find in a dusty cellar but trust me, this is liquid gold for your ears if you’re into baroque fire. Now, I gotta shout out two tracks that slapped hard enough to stick in my brain. First up, Cantate BWV 82—oh man, this one hits different. The vocals? Unreal. They’re not just singing; they’re straight-up wrestling with your soul. There’s this raw energy coming off the choir like they’ve been saving up all year to belt these notes. Feels like standing in church, but instead of guilt-tripping you about sins, it’s hitting you with pure spiritual adrenaline. You can’t help but sit up straight when that organ kicks in—it’s like Bach knew exactly how to punch you right in the feels. Then there’s Cantate BWV 158, which goes off in a totally different way. This track sneaks up on ya, quiet at first, almost shy. But then BAM! Those strings come slicing through like daggers. Seriously, whoever arranged this deserves a medal—or maybe a beer, idk. What gets me is how tight everything feels. Every note has its place, no room for slacking here. By the end, you’re left wondering, “How did he even think of this?” Spoiler alert: He was probably too busy being a genius to care what we thought. Look, let’s keep it real. Listening to Bach isn’t always easy. Sometimes it feels like trying to solve a math problem while drunk. But damn, when it clicks, it REALLY clicks. This album ain’t background noise—it demands attention, respect, maybe even a little sweat. And honestly? That’s what makes it so good. Here’s the kicker though: Why do we still listen to music made centuries ago? Like, sure, Bach was brilliant, but wouldn’t it be wild if aliens landed tomorrow and told us Bach was their boy too? Just sayin’.

About Johann Sebastian Bach

Johann Sebastian Bach was born on March 21, 1685 in Eisenach, Thuringia, Germany. A prolific German composer and organist, his sacred and secular works for choir, orchestra and solo instruments drew together the strands of the baroque genre and brought it to its ultimate maturity. Although he introduced no new forms, he enriched the prevailing German style with a robust contrapuntal technique, a control of harmonic and motivic organisation from the smallest to the largest scales, and the adaptation of rhythms and textures from abroad, particularly Italy and France. Many people consider him to be the greatest Baroque composer, and one of the greatest composers of all time. Revered for their intellectual depth, technical command and artistic beauty, J.S. Bach's works include the Brandenburg concertos, the keyboard suites and partitas, the Mass in B Minor, the St. Matthew Passion, The Musical Offering, The Art of Fugue and a large number of cantatas, of which about 220 survive. He died on July 28, 1750. Some of his sons also became composers - , , and .

Interesting fact about Album

Here’s something cool: The album *Les Grandes Cantates de JS Bach Volume 13* is part of a special series from France. It’s dedicated to showcasing Johann Sebastian Bach’s cantatas.
