En la primavera de 1974 nacio en nueva york , especificamente en manhattan una orquesta de 7 miembros llamada la sonora borinquen liderada primeramente por el bongocero Gilberto Rodriguez , y quien a su vez mas adelante tomo las riendas de la direccion el dominicano Ray Hernandez.
Esta orquesta primeramente lideraba un ensayo en el chico east un restaurante muy importante en la ciudad , situado en la 92 con segunda avenida , mediante ese ensayo o toque estaba Chino Cruz De Jesus quien se encontraba observandolos y que a su vez la compañia creada a partir de 1972 Tr records (Tito Rodriguez) buscaba talentos jovenes de la epoca para tenerlos en su sello y es por la recomendacion de Chino Cruz De Jesus que ellos entran a la compañia.
No obstante a la firma del contrato graban su unico trabajo que graban en el verano de 1976 , exactamente el 24 de octubre , dicha produccion fue hecha por el pastuso Eddie Martinez , y quien fue el encargado de terminar la produccion fue el hijo de Tito Rodriguez , Tito Rodriguez Jr y del cual se desconocen los motivos por el cual el la concluyo.
Sin duda alguna la sonora borinquen dio mucho talento en aquella epoca para los amantes de la musica antillana y el genero salsa.
