Sharks EP by Llesca: A Bassline Beast That Still Slaps Alright, let’s get one thing straight—Llesca’s Sharks EP isn’t just another forgettable drop in the UK electronic scene. Released back in 2013 under Get Some Records, this six-track grime and bassline banger doesn’t mess around. It’s raw, it’s gritty, and yeah, it’ll slap you upside the head if you’re not ready for it. Goran Simonoski mastered the whole thing, so you know the sound hits hard where it counts. Now, I’m gonna cut to the chase here because life’s too short for fluff. Two tracks stood out like a sore thumb on my playlist: “Sharks (Steel City Remix - Checan feat. K.Dot)” and “Sharks (Neana Remix).” Let me tell ya why these stuck with me. First up, that Steel City remix. Damn. If you don’t feel your chest rattle when K.Dot comes in, check your pulse—you might be dead. The beat is relentless, grinding away at your brain until all you can think about is losing yourself in some sweaty club somewhere. And K.Dot? Dude delivers his lines sharp as a knife. You can hear the Sheffield grit dripping off every word. This ain’t no polished pop garbage; it’s pure street-level energy. When people talk about grime having soul, THIS is what they mean. Then there’s Neana’s remix. Oh man, this one flips the script completely. Where Steel City goes dark and heavy, Neana takes “Sharks” into outer freakin’ space. The synths spiral out of control while the bassline punches you right in the gut. It’s chaotic but calculated, like she knew exactly how far she could push it before everything collapses. Spoiler alert: She doesn’t collapse. Instead, she leaves you breathless, wondering how something so wild still feels cohesive. Hats off to her for pulling that off. Look, I’m not gonna sit here and pretend every track on Sharks EP reinvented the wheel or whatever. But honestly? That’s not the point. What Llesca did here was craft an EP that refuses to blend into the background. It demands attention. Whether you’re vibing to Checan’s grimy flow or getting lost in Neana’s cosmic madness, this record reminds you why UK bass music matters. And hey, fun fact—if you listen closely, you can almost smell the rain-soaked streets of Sheffield leaking through the speakers. Weird, right? Like, who knew weather could have its own soundtrack? So yeah, Sharks EP. Not perfect, but unforgettable. Just like those nights you end up dancing til dawn even though you swore you’d go home early.

Notes

  • The eighth release on Get Some Records, sees Lancaster teen Llesca make his debut with 'Sharks', set for release July, accompanied by four remixes, and a bonus vocal from Sheffield MC, KDot.
  • The track centres around a repeatedly chopped vocal stab, bouncing off-pitched claps in a frenzied intro. With the drop comes a distinctive sci-fi riff, heavily synthesised and given space in the mix for maximum impact. The elements combine and evolve throughout, shuffling above swollen bass notes in an up-to-date fusion of 140BPM grime, garage and ghetto.
  • London-via-Sheffield producer, Checan's '2 Sugars Remix’ takes the original into Bassline territory. It's raw and upfront, filling in the gaps with a lively mid-range.
  • Liminal Sounds boss Elsewhere goes the other way and strips it to typically sparse arrangement with trap-style cymbals and rolling 808s nodding to the recent output of ClekClekBoom amongst others.
  • Promising newcomer Neana veers furthest from the original, delivering a mutant techno cut that drops out of nowhere with rowdy, stop-in-your-tracks drums. Fans of Randomer and the like take note.
  • Pedro 123, is quickly becoming one of the most sought-after remixers in grime, so far lending his hand to the work of Starkey, Youngstar, Stuff, Slick Don, Lakosa & iO and Don't Panic. His interpretation adds energetic drum rhythms and urgent, steely synths in his increasingly inimitable fashion.

Here’s a cool little fact: The album *Sharks EP* by Llesca is a treasure trove of remixes, all centered around one killer track—*Sharks*. Released in 2013 in the UK under Get Some Records, it dives deep into electronic beats with grime and bassline vibes. What makes it stand out?
