Franco Ricci Vol 3: A Slice of Napoli That Sticks With You Alright, let’s talk about Franco Ricci Vol 3. Released in 2011 by Jumbo Record, this album is like a warm hug from Naples itself. It’s packed with Folk, World, & Country vibes mixed with Alternative and Pop touches—but don’t forget, it’s rooted deep in the soulful style of Canzone Napoletana. If you’ve ever been to Italy—or even if you haven’t—you’ll feel like you’re walking through cobblestone streets sipping espresso while listening to this gem. Now, I gotta admit something upfront: there are so many tracks on here (seriously, over 50!), but two stood out for me—‘O Sole Mio and Parlame ‘e Napule. Let me break it down real quick. First up, ‘O Sole Mio. Yeah, yeah, I know what you’re thinking—"Another version? Really?" But hold your horses because Franco makes it his own. The melody hits different; it feels less flashy and more heartfelt. Like, imagine sitting at a tiny café overlooking the bay, the sun setting slow as someone sings just for you—not a big crowd, just YOU. There’s no overproduction or bells and whistles here. Just raw emotion wrapped around those iconic lyrics. By the time he gets to the chorus, you’ll swear you can smell the saltwater breeze. Then there's Parlame ‘e Napule. Oh man, this one sneaks up on ya. At first, it’s all soft and dreamy, almost whispery, but then BAM—it pulls you into its world. Every word feels like a love letter to Naples. You can practically see the narrow alleys, hear kids laughing somewhere off in the distance, and taste some fresh sfogliatella. What sticks with me most is how Franco delivers certain lines—he doesn’t just sing them; he LIVES them. One line in particular (“Parlame ‘e Napule… nun fa murì ‘stu core”) hit me right in the feels. Dude knows how to tug at heartstrings without trying too hard. What’s wild about this album is that it’s not trying to reinvent the wheel. Instead, it celebrates tradition—like handing down recipes from grandma to grandkid. Sure, some might call it old-school, but isn’t that the point? These songs have been sung for generations, yet Franco breathes new life into them. He reminds us why they’re classics in the first place. And honestly, after diving headfirst into this record, I couldn’t help but think: Why do we always chase shiny new things when the old stuff still works so damn well? This album proves that sometimes, staying true to who you are beats trying to be cool any day. Oh, and one last thing—listening to this made me realize I need to visit Naples ASAP. Maybe I’ll bump into Franco himself singing somewhere random. Wouldn’t that be something?
