Album Review: Live At Long Row by Matthew Frederick If you’re into music that feels like a warm hug on a cold day, Matthew Frederick’s Live At Long Row might just be your next obsession. Released in 2015 under Staylittle Music (UK), this album is a cozy mix of Singer/Songwriter vibes, Folk charm, and even a sprinkle of Math Rock quirks. It’s acoustic-heavy but never boring—more like sitting by a campfire with someone who knows how to tell a good story. Let’s talk tracks. “Little Heart” kicks things off with this gentle energy that sneaks up on you. The melody feels simple at first, but then it grows on you, like those songs you didn’t know you needed until they were stuck in your head for days. There’s something about the way Frederick sings it—it’s not perfect, but that’s what makes it real. You can almost picture him strumming away in some small venue, pouring his soul into every word. Then there’s “Pink Blossom Snow.” This one hits different. Maybe it’s the imagery in the lyrics or the way the guitar dances around the rhythm, but it feels like stepping into a dreamy spring morning where everything smells fresh and new. It’s soft but layered, kind of like when you find an old sweater you forgot you loved—it’s familiar yet surprising all over again. The credits are worth mentioning too. Hats off to lastonedesign.com for the artwork; it fits the vibe perfectly. And big ups to Daniel Tudor Edwards and Matthew himself for co-producing—the sound quality feels intimate without being overly polished. Like, you can hear little imperfections here and there, but honestly? That’s what makes it human. One thing I gotta say—this album doesn’t try too hard to impress anyone, and maybe that’s why it sticks. It’s not flashy or loud, but it lingers. Kinda like how you remember certain conversations years later because they meant something, even if you can’t quite explain why. Oh, and fun fact: Some tracks repeat themselves on the tracklist. Not sure if that was intentional or a happy accident, but hey, sometimes life loops back on itself too, right? So yeah, give Live At Long Row a spin if you’re looking for music that feels like home. Just don’t blame me if “Little Heart” becomes your new earworm!

About Matthew Frederick

Hailing from the Rhondda Valley in South Wales, singer, songwriter, composer and some-time television presenter MATTHEW FREDERICK blends a childhood love of the early works of Elton John and Billy Joel with more recent influences including Ben Folds, John Grant and Bon Iver to create a distinctive sound somewhere between Math-Folk and Cymrucana. Releasing debut EP VENUS & MARS in 2012, Matthew has since made a number of radio and television appearances, collaborated with Ed Sheeran co-writer and Grammy award-winning Amy Wadge, and penned original music for Sony-signed Only Boys Aloud. Recorded in front of an intimate crowd in December 2014, the following Spring saw Matthew release his LIVE AT LONG ROW album, before landing his own television show as the writer, presenter and co-producer of STAYLITTLE SESSIONS for MADE TV. Recently appearing at the likes of Green Man Festival, Festival No.6, The Hay Festival and Brecon Jazz, Matthew is also the frontman of CLIMBING TREES, a fixture in Aled Rheons all-star live band The Gorgeous Charge, regularly performs with Pembrokeshire-based singer-songwriter Jodie Marie, and is currently working on an EP of classical compositions alongside a first full-length studio album, both earmarked for release in 2018.
