Mizar EP: When Italian Rock Meets Hard Trance in a Cosmic Collision Alright, buckle up, because we’re diving into Mizar EP, the 2000 release from—you guessed it—Mizar. This little gem hails from Italy and comes courtesy of Black Sun Rec., with Adriano Guardigli, Alessandro Deriu, and Alex Di Stefano wearing so many hats they probably needed a closet just for credits. They wrote it, arranged it, produced it, mixed it… heck, I wouldn’t be surprised if they also hand-delivered copies to record stores while riding Vespa scooters. Genre-wise, you’ve got rock meeting electronic vibes with a healthy dose of hard trance swagger. It’s like someone took an electric guitar, dunked it in neon lights, and said, “Let’s see what happens.” Spoiler alert: magic happened. Now, onto the tracks. The EP has three bangers: "Orion," "Volcano," and "Quazar." Let’s zoom in on two that stuck with me longer than last night's pizza leftovers. First up is "Orion." Oh man, this one hits like your first espresso shot of the day—sharp, invigorating, and slightly overwhelming if you're not ready. The beat pulses through you like some kind of intergalactic heartbeat, while layers of synths swirl around like stardust caught in a cosmic breeze. There’s a raw energy here that feels both futuristic and primal, like Daft Punk decided to jam with Muse after watching too many sci-fi flicks. You can practically picture yourself zipping through space at warp speed, dodging asteroids and feeling cooler than you have any right to feel. Then there’s "Volcano." If "Orion" is all sleek spaceship vibes, "Volcano" is its fiery, untamed cousin. Imagine standing at the edge of an erupting volcano but instead of running for your life, you’re vibing to the bassline. The track builds tension like crazy, layering pounding drums with glitchy electronic bursts until you’re convinced something big is about to explode (spoiler: it does). Around the halfway mark, everything drops out except for this haunting melody that sneaks up on you like a ninja in headphones. By the time the full force kicks back in, you’re hooked—like, “forget work today” hooked. So yeah, these guys didn’t just make music; they crafted experiences. Listening to Mizar EP feels less like pressing play and more like stepping into their weird, wonderful brainwave machine. And honestly? That’s kinda awesome. Here’s the kicker though: as much as I love the album, part of me wonders if Adriano, Alessandro, and Alex ever argued over who contributed more. Like, did Alex storm off mid-mixing session yelling, “Fine, YOU try balancing those synth levels!” Meanwhile, Adriano scribbles lyrics on napkins and Alessandro chills in the corner saying, “Guys, let’s just vibe.” Pure speculation, but hey—it adds character. Final thought? If aliens ever invade Earth looking for proof of human creativity, I’m handing them Mizar EP. Either they’ll beam us aboard for being brilliant or blast us for being too loud. Either way, worth it.
