New Order - Jetstream

Jetstream by New Order: A Sonic Journey Worth Taking New Order’s Jetstream (2005) isn’t just an album—it’s a vibe, man. It’s like stepping into a time machine that zaps you back to the golden era of electronic music but still feels fresh enough for today’s playlists. You’ve got your house beats, synth-pop grooves, indie rock vibes, and even some deep house lurking in the shadows. This thing is all over the place, genre-wise, but somehow it works. Like when you throw random toppings on pizza and end up with something unexpectedly delicious. Let me start with the title track, “Jetstream.” Oh, this one sticks to your brain like gum under a table. The version I keep coming back to? The Tom Neville Remix Dub. It’s got this hypnotic bassline that just pulls you in—like gravity—and Ana Matronic’s vocals float over it like silk sheets blowing in the wind. Seriously, her voice adds this sultry edge that makes the whole thing feel cinematic. When she sings, it’s not just lyrics; it’s more like she’s whispering secrets directly into your soul. And the beat? Damn. It’s dancefloor-ready but chill enough for those late-night drives where you’re lost in thought. That mix hits different every time you hear it—sometimes euphoric, sometimes melancholic, always unforgettable. Then there’s “Hey Now What You Doing (Album Version).” This track has this raw energy that reminds me why New Order will always be legends. It’s punchy without being too aggressive, kinda like someone tapping you on the shoulder at a party instead of shouting in your face. The rhythm section locks in perfectly, and the synths have this retro-futuristic shimmer that gives off major nostalgia vibes. There’s a moment midway through where everything drops out except for these haunting keys—it’s simple, yeah, but it punches you right in the feels. Feels like standing alone on a beach at sunset, watching the waves crash while thinking about people you miss. Weirdly emotional for a pop-rock banger, huh? I gotta give props to Stuart Price, who produced most of the album. Dude knew how to balance chaos and control, weaving together layers of sound that never feel overwhelming. Peter Saville’s art direction deserves a shoutout too—the cover looks sleek as hell, which matches the vibe of the music inside. Reflecting on Jetstream, it’s wild to think about how many remixes they packed onto this release. Some albums might get bogged down by so many versions of the same song, but here? Each remix brings something new to the table. It’s almost like they were saying, “Here’s our gift—we trust you to find your favorite path through it.” But honestly, what really struck me was how human this record feels despite its electronic roots. Maybe that’s why it stuck around after all these years. Or maybe it’s because listening to it feels like catching up with an old friend who knows exactly what you need to hear. Either way, Jetstream proves that good music doesn’t age—it evolves. Now excuse me while I go blast "Jetstream" again and pretend I’m DJing my own little world tour.
