Perez Prado - Original Recordings

Original Recordings by Perez Prado: A Timeless Fiesta of Rhythms Alright, let’s talk about Original Recordings by Perez Prado. If you’re into jazz with a spicy Latin twist, this 1993 gem from Italy is gonna hit different. It’s like dipping your toes into a warm ocean of mambo beats and Afro-Cuban vibes while sipping something fruity under the sun. Big band? Check. Easy listening? Double check. This album flips between smooth and fiery so fast it feels like salsa dancing in your headphones. The record kicks off with “Patricia,” and oh man—this one sticks to your soul like gum on a hot sidewalk. The brass punches through like a trumpet yelling at dawn, waking up every sleepy corner of your brain. You don’t just hear this track—you feel it. Like when someone tells an epic story that makes you laugh, cry, then laugh again, all in five minutes flat. That’s “Patricia” for ya. Every note feels alive, almost as if Perez himself was standing there egging his musicians on with wild hand gestures. Pure magic. Then there’s “Mambo N..5.” Yeah, THE one. How could I forget this banger? It’s impossible not to move when this plays—it’s the kind of tune that turns your living room into a dance floor whether you want it or no. There’s something hypnotic about how the rhythm builds, layer upon layer, until you’re completely swept away. By the time the saxophone solo kicks in, you're already sweating (in a good way). It’s playful but sharp, kinda like flirting with someone who knows they’ve got charm for days. Other tracks like “Besame Mucho” and “Tequila” keep things fresh too. They’re classics done Prado-style, which means extra flair and swagger. But honestly? Listening to this whole album feels less like hearing songs and more like being part of some secret party where everyone speaks music instead of words. What really gets me though, is how timeless these tunes feel. Even though this album dropped in '93, it sounds like it belongs in both a smoky Havana club in the '50s AND a modern-day playlist during happy hour. Credit goes to Fremus S.a.s. for keeping the vibe alive and Mariella Reitano for making sure the cover art matches that vibe perfectly—simple yet bold, just like the music inside. So yeah, here’s the thing. Listening to Original Recordings isn’t just about enjoying great music; it’s about rediscovering joy. And weirdly enough, halfway through my second listen, I realized something: Perez Prado didn’t make albums—he made mood boosters disguised as records. Now excuse me while I go practice my non-existent salsa moves in the mirror.

About Perez Prado

Cuban naturalized Mexican, bandleader, singer, organist, pianist and composer (born December 11, 1916 in Matanzas, Cuba - died September 14, 1989 in Mexico City, Mexico). Brother of . Perez Prado is often referred to as the 'King of the Mambo'. He was born in Matanzas, Cuba, where he studied classical piano in his early childhood, and later played organ and piano in local clubs. For a time, he was pianist and arranger for , Cuba's best-known musical group. He also worked with casino orchestras in Havana for most of the 1940s, gaining the nick-name "El Cara de Foca" ("Seal Face"). In 1948 he moved to Mexico to form his own band and record for RCA Victor. He quickly specialized in mambos, an upbeat adaptation of the Cuban danzón. In 1950 arranger heard "Que rico el mambo" while on vacation in Mexico and recorded it back in the United States as "Mambo Jambo". The single was a hit, which caused Prado to launch a US tour. His appearances in 1951 were sell-outs and he began recording US releases for RCA Victor. Prado is the composer of such famous pieces as "Mambo No. 5" and "Mambo No. 8." At the height of the mambo movement, in 1955, Prado hit the American charts at number one with a cha-cha version of "Cherry Pink and Apple Blossom White".
