Review by Robert Segrest

Shame Fantasy II: A Punk Riot That Kicks You in the Teeth Let’s get one thing straight—Pink And Brown’s Shame Fantasy II isn’t for everyone. This 2008 release is like a wild dog chewing on your headphones, spitting out jagged riffs and sneering vocals that make you question if you’ve accidentally pissed off the universe. With its mix of punk grit and art rock weirdness, it doesn’t just push boundaries—it smashes them into tiny pieces and laughs at the mess. The album kicks off with “Sheriff Jessum,” a track so raw it feels like sandpaper scrubbing your soul. The guitar work is chaotic but precise, like someone took a sledgehammer to a clock and somehow made it tick better than before. It’s got this relentless energy that grabs you by the throat and refuses to let go. By the time you hit the chorus, you’re either headbanging or wondering why your neighbors are calling the cops again. Either way, it sticks. You can’t unhear it, even if you try. Then there’s “Puddles Of Acid Part 1 & 2,” which sounds exactly like what happens when two drunk chemists argue over who gets to blow up the lab first. The song flips between snarling verses and an almost hypnotic breakdown that makes you feel like you’re melting into the floor—and not in a bad way. There’s something about the way the drums punch through the noise that hits you right in the gut. It’s messy, unpredictable, and completely unhinged. In other words, pure brilliance. What sets Shame Fantasy II apart from other albums in the same vein is how unapologetically abrasive it is. Pink And Brown don’t care if you think they’re too loud, too weird, or too much. They’re here to shove their sound down your throat and make you choke on it. The production is dirty as hell (thanks Chris Dixon and Dave Broekema), but that’s part of the charm. It’s real. No shiny polish, no fake edges. Just raw, unfiltered chaos. And let’s talk about those credits real quick—Jumbo Jimmy’s, Steve Sidewinder Touchton, and Virgil Porter deserve some kind of award for making cover art that matches the insanity inside. Seriously, whoever designed that cover knew exactly what they were doing. It’s like looking at a car crash—you can’t look away. But here’s the kicker: listening to this album feels less like entertainment and more like therapy for people who hate themselves a little bit. It’s exhausting, exhilarating, and sometimes infuriating—all at once. But damn, does it leave a mark. So yeah, Shame Fantasy II isn’t perfect. Hell, it’s barely sane. But maybe that’s the point. Maybe we all need a little acid puddle in our lives every now and then. Or maybe I’m just losing my mind. Who knows? All I know is, after spinning this record, I felt alive in ways I didn’t even want to be. Final thought: If Pink And Brown ever reunite, I hope they burn the stage to the ground. Literally.
