Review by Christy Herpin

Album Review: Sid Straw’s Latest Release Alright, let’s talk about Sid Straw’s new album. I’ll be honest—I wasn’t sure what to expect at first. The cover art looked cool but kinda understated, you know? Like, it didn’t scream “listen to me!” But once I hit play, man, this thing had some real gems tucked inside. First up, there’s “Static in the Rain.” This track just grabs you by the ears and doesn’t let go. It starts with this moody guitar riff that feels like walking through fog—kinda disorienting but also kinda beautiful. Then Sid’s voice comes in, all gravelly and raw, singing about trying to find clarity when life feels messy. There’s this one lyric—"I’m shouting, but the sky won’t answer"—that stuck with me for days. Not because it’s super poetic or anything, but because it hits close to home. You ever feel like no matter how loud you yell, nothing changes? Yeah, exactly. That song gets it. Then there’s “Neon Ghosts.” Oh man, this one’s wild. It’s got this funky bassline that makes you wanna move, even if you’re just sitting on your couch eating chips (no judgment). The chorus is catchy as hell—like, annoyingly so. I caught myself humming it while brushing my teeth last night. What really stands out though is the energy. It’s chaotic in the best way, like a party where everyone knows the dance moves except you, but somehow you still fit right in. The rest of the album has its moments too, but these two tracks are the ones I keep coming back to. They’re different vibes, sure—one’s more introspective, the other’s straight-up fun—but both have this authenticity that feels rare these days. Sid isn’t trying too hard to impress anyone; he’s just telling his stories, and they happen to sound great. Here’s the thing: listening to this album made me realize something weird. Music isn’t always about perfection or big statements—it’s about connection. And Sid Straw? He connects. Whether he’s whispering over a quiet melody or rocking out with neon ghosts, he reminds us we’re not alone in feeling lost—or wanting to dance till our feet hurt. Oh, and random thought: if this album were a person, it’d probably wear leather jackets and drink coffee black. Just saying.
