Review by Marquis Parker

My Pravdu Nemáme: A Sonic Kaleidoscope of Rebellion and Ants Released in 2012 by Czech Republic’s Skrytý Půvab Byrokracie (Hidden Charm of Bureaucracy), My Pravdu Nemáme is one of those albums that feels like it crawled out of an alternate dimension where rock, electronic beats, and experimental chaos have a love child. It’s messy, unapologetic, and oddly beautiful—like finding graffiti on the side of a government building that makes you stop and think. The band pulls together a wild mix of alternative rock and experimental vibes, with enough saxophone wails and synthesizer bleeps to keep things unpredictable. And let’s not forget the trombone—that’s right, there’s a freakin’ trombone in here. Roman Plischke wears more hats than a milliner, playing guitar, sax, trombone, and handling recording duties. Meanwhile, Jan Faix brings the electronic wizardry, armed with beats, no-input cassette players, and other gadgets that sound like they were dug up from a Cold War bunker. Now, let me tell ya about two tracks that stuck with me like gum under a desk. First up is “Půjdete Dělat Rebelii” (“You’re Gonna Do A Rebellion”). This track hits hard—a rallying cry wrapped in gritty guitars and pounding percussion. Jakub Žid’s vocals are raw and urgent, like he’s trying to wake you up from some dystopian nightmare. The energy is infectious; halfway through, I swear my cat started moshing. There’s this moment when the beat drops and the saxophone comes screaming in—it’s as if someone opened a portal to a punk jazz club somewhere in the multiverse. Then there’s “Ve Státě Mravenčím” (“In The State Of Ants”), which might be the weirdest anthem for existential dread you’ll ever hear. The lyrics paint this eerie picture of society as ants trapped in their little anthill routines, marching toward oblivion while machines hum ominously in the background. The layers of sound here are nuts—synths buzz around like drones, basslines slither beneath your feet, and the occasional clang of metal percussion reminds you how industrial life can feel. By the end, you’re left wondering whether to laugh or cry—or maybe both at once. What really ties everything together is Ondřej Ježek’s mastering touch and Federsel’s mixing magic. They somehow wrangled all these disparate elements into something coherent but still gloriously chaotic. Hats off to Carton Clan and Eja Kulovaný too for the visuals—the cover art looks like propaganda posters melted in the sun. Listening to My Pravdu Nemáme feels like stepping into a strange dream where bureaucracy has a soul, rebellion is contagious, and ants hold secret meetings about overthrowing humanity. Is it perfect? Nah. But perfection would ruin its charm. Instead, it’s a jagged gemstone, glittering with flaws and brilliance. As I hit replay for the third time, I couldn’t help but wonder: If Kafka had written music instead of novels, would it sound anything like this? Or maybe, just maybe, this is what happens when you let bureaucrats loose in a recording studio. Who knew paperwork could inspire such fire?
