Review by Camila Villalobos

Album Review: Planet Tampon by TAMPON – A Punk Odyssey from the Czech Republic Released in 2017 under Prof Sny Records, Planet Tampon is a raw and unapologetic dive into punk rock that feels like an adrenaline shot to the system. Hailing from the Czech Republic, TAMPON delivers a record that’s as chaotic as it is captivating, blending biting social commentary with infectious energy. The album's artwork—crafted by Asli Akinci, Eren Kucukerdem, and Esat Cavit Basak—sets the tone for what lies within: bold, rebellious, and slightly unhinged. The tracklist reads like a fever dream of irreverence, featuring songs like “Hortum,” “Mavi Pembe,” and “Candy Castles.” But two tracks stand out in particular, leaving a lasting impression long after the needle lifts off the vinyl (or the playlist ends). First up is “Tek Tabanca”, which hits hard with its relentless guitar riffs and pounding drums. It’s one of those tracks where you can almost feel the sweat dripping off the stage during a live performance. The vocals are gritty, almost snarling, but there’s a strange catchiness to them—a mix of defiance and dark humor that sticks with you. You find yourself humming bits of it later, even if you’re not entirely sure why. Then there’s “Dinazor”, a wild ride that somehow manages to sound both primal and polished at the same time. This song has this driving bassline that just refuses to let go, pulling you deeper into its vortex. Lyrically, it leans into absurdity without losing its edge, creating a vibe that’s equal parts playful and menacing. If dinosaurs had their own anthem in some alternate universe, this would be it—but make no mistake, it’s still very much rooted in punk sensibilities. What makes Planet Tampon so memorable isn’t just its sonic assault; it’s how it balances chaos with moments of surprising clarity. Tracks like “T.C.” and “Osmanlı” hint at broader themes—perhaps political or cultural—but they never spoon-feed you answers. Instead, they leave room for interpretation, inviting listeners to connect the dots themselves. And honestly? That’s kinda refreshing in today’s oversaturated music scene. One thing worth noting is how cohesive yet unpredictable the album feels. Sure, it’s punk through and over, but each track brings something new to the table—whether it’s a quirky synth line in “Sosyete” or the anthemic quality of “Orduya.” It keeps you guessing, keeps you hooked. In hindsight, Planet Tampon isn’t perfect—it’s messy, loud, and occasionally abrasive. But maybe that’s the point. In a world obsessed with polish and perfection, TAMPON reminds us that sometimes the most impactful art comes from embracing imperfection. So here’s my unexpected remark: listening to this album feels less like hearing music and more like surviving a tornado—and weirdly enough, I kinda loved it.
