Album Review: Fire In The Dolls House by Tom Moriarty If you’re a fan of raw, soulful music that feels like it was made in a smoky pub on a rainy night, Fire In The Dolls House by Tom Moriarty is your jam. Released back in 2010, this UK-born album blends blues, folk, and rock into something that’s hard to ignore. It’s not perfect—sometimes it stumbles a little—but when it hits, man, does it hit. Let’s talk tracks. First up, “Dance With Me.” Right off the bat, this song grabs you with its groovy rhythm and laid-back vibe. You can almost picture yourself swaying under dim lights somewhere. The guitar riffs are simple but packed with emotion, like they’ve got stories to tell but don’t want to overwhelm you. This one sticks because it’s catchy without being pushy—it’s the kind of tune you’d hum while walking down the street, pretending you’ve got life figured out. Another standout is “Where Are You Now (Acoustic).” There’s just something about acoustic versions, isn’t there? They strip away all the noise and leave you with pure feeling. This track feels intimate, like Moriarty’s sitting right there next to you, spilling his heart out over an old guitar. The lyrics aren’t groundbreaking, but they don’t need to be. Sometimes honesty is enough, and this song proves it. The rest of the album has its moments too. Tracks like “Life’s A Mystery” and “Smile If You Wanna Get High” keep things interesting, mixing bluesy grit with a touch of mischief. And yeah, having three versions of “Fire In The Doll’s House” might seem a bit much at first, but each version brings something different to the table. The radio edit’s slicker, sure, but the full-length cuts let you sink deeper into the mood. One thing I gotta say—it’s cool how Moriarty self-released part of this through Not On Label. Feels real, y’know? Like he didn’t wait for permission to share what he loves. That DIY spirit shines through here. So, would I recommend Fire In The Dolls House? Absolutely. It’s not gonna blow your mind or anything, but it’s solid, heartfelt stuff. Listening to it feels like hanging out with an old friend who doesn’t always have their act together but makes you laugh anyway. Oh, and here’s a random thought to end on: if this album were a drink, it’d probably be whiskey. Smooth in parts, rough around the edges, and best enjoyed late at night when you’re feeling nostalgic. Cheers to that!
