Kaštono Garsai 3: A Lithuanian Sonic Adventure That’s Hard to Pronounce but Easy to Love Alright, buckle up because Kaštono Garsai 3 is one of those albums that makes you go, “Wait… what genre even is this?” Released in 2017 by a bunch of Lithuanian musicians under the gloriously DIY label Not On Label (aka Kaštonas Self-released), this album feels like someone threw Rock, Hip Hop, and Electronic into a blender, then hit “puree” until it sounded like pure chaos. But hey, chaotic can be cool. The genres listed here are basically everything but polka—Bass Music, Post-Punk, Alternative Rock, Synth-pop, Experimental—you name it. It’s like they couldn’t decide on a vibe, so they just said, “Screw it, let’s do all of them.” And honestly? It works. Mostly. Now, onto the tracks. There are some real gems here, but I’ll focus on two standouts that stuck with me long after my headphones came off. First up: “Grįžkit Iš Toli.” This track hits you like an emotional freight train wrapped in a synth blanket. The vocals have this haunting quality, like someone whispering secrets from another dimension, while the beat builds slowly, pulling you deeper into its weird little world. By the time the bass kicks in, you’re already hooked. It’s melancholy but strangely uplifting, like crying in the shower but also feeling kinda badass about it. You won’t forget this one anytime soon—it’s the kind of song that makes you stare out windows dramatically, even if you’re just looking at your neighbor’s hedge. Then there’s “Paris Taxi Restaurant,” which sounds like the title of a surreal art film or maybe a Yelp review gone wrong. Musically, it’s all over the place in the best way possible. Imagine if Daft Punk decided to collaborate with Joy Division after binge-watching French New Wave films. There’s a pulsing rhythm that keeps things moving, layered with these glitchy electronic bits that feel both futuristic and nostalgic. Halfway through, it throws in a curveball—a sudden drop into something almost jazzy—and you’re left wondering, “Did I just hear saxophone?!” Yep, yep you did. It’s wild, unpredictable, and totally unforgettable. Other tracks like “Juoda Juoda Juoda Juoda Naktis” and “Kūną Palikai / Atsibudai” bring their own flavors to the mix, ranging from moody introspection to straight-up dance-floor bangers. But for me, it’s those first two tracks that really cemented this album as something special. So, what’s the takeaway here? Kaštono Garsai 3 isn’t perfect—it’s messy, experimental, and occasionally feels like it’s trying too hard to impress its cool older sibling. But damn, does it make an impression. If music had a personality, this would be the quirky friend who shows up uninvited to parties but ends up being the life of the event anyway. And here’s the kicker: Listening to this album made me realize how much we need more self-released projects like this. No big-label nonsense, no algorithmic playlists—just raw creativity spilling out onto the floor. In a world obsessed with perfection, Kaštono Garsai 3 reminds us that sometimes, imperfection is where the magic happens. Oh, and fun fact: After writing this review, I googled “Kaštono Garsai” to see if it meant anything. Turns out it roughly translates to “Chestnut Sounds.” Go figure. Įdomus kūrinys. Žodžiai tikras kosmosas, o muzika labai gerai jaučiama, toks lyg ir labai labai minimalus melodinis techno sumaišytas su retro garsais ir cyberpunk vibe'ais. Sukelia nostalgiškus jausmus. Nežinau kodėl taip atsitiko, kad paklausęs kelis gabalus sugalvojau pakomentuoti būtent po šiuo. Kad ir kaip ten bebūtų, noriu pasakyti, kad tiek Mesijus tiek Münpauzn, abu yra unikalūs menininkai ir jū kūryba nuostabi?
