Warriors - Warriors

Review by Dr. Shannon Reece

Alright, let’s dive into Warriors, the 2006 album by the band Warriors. It’s one of those wild genre mashups that somehow works—Dance, Electronic, Pop/Rock, and even Heavy Metal? Yeah, they went there. With styles like Trance, Psy-Trance, and Heavy Metal thrown in for good measure, this album feels like a chaotic party where everyone’s invited but no one knows the dress code. Released across Canada, Japan, Netherlands, and Europe on labels like Attic, Roadrunner Records, and Who’s Afraid Of 138?!, it’s clear this thing had some serious global ambition. Now, I gotta admit, when I first spun this album, I wasn’t sure what to expect. But two tracks stuck with me: “I’m Begging You” and “Rave & Party.” “I’m Begging You” is just... catchy as hell. Like, you’ll be humming it while brushing your teeth or stuck in traffic. The vocals from Dušan are raw yet smooth, kinda like whiskey poured over honey. And the production? Props to Michael Wagener and Walter Zwol because it slaps. There’s this trancey beat layered under heavy guitar riffs—it shouldn’t work, but it does. It’s the kind of song that makes you wanna grab someone by the shoulders and yell, “LISTEN TO THIS PART RIGHT HERE!” (Not responsible for any awkward stares if you actually do this.) Then there’s “Rave & Party,” which is basically an anthem for anyone who loves neon lights and questionable life choices. The extended mix takes things up a notch—you can practically hear the glow sticks snapping in time with the beat. This track is pure energy, perfect for losing yourself on a dance floor somewhere in Europe or at a backyard bash in Canada. Zoran’s backing vocals add this cool layer of depth, and the whole thing just screams late-night euphoria. Honestly, every time I hear it, I feel like I should be wearing glitter face paint and jumping around like an idiot. The rest of the album’s got its moments too—“Marakesh” brings the vibes, and “Flight of the Children” has this haunting melody that sticks with you—but those two tracks really steal the show. Plus, shoutout to Dean Motter and Zoran Blažina for the killer artwork and illustrations. The visual side of this album matches the music perfectly—chaotic, bold, and unapologetically weird. Reflecting on Warriors, it’s kinda amazing how much ground it covers without falling apart. Sure, not every track hits the same high notes, but it’s got personality for days. Listening to it feels like meeting someone at a party who tells you their entire life story within five minutes—you’re overwhelmed, intrigued, and maybe a little confused, but you can’t look away. Oh, and here’s the unexpected part: despite all the chaos, my cat LOVES this album. No joke. Every time I play “Rave & Party,” she starts running laps around the living room. So yeah, apparently felines dig trance-metal fusion too. Who knew?
