Review by Kelly Abbott

Album Review: From Walt Disney's Tonka Alright, let’s talk about this little gem—From Walt Disney's Tonka. It’s a children’s album from the US, released by Golden Records, and it’s got some real charm. The lineup includes Wayne Sherwood, The Sandpipers, Jimmy Carroll and His Orchestra, which honestly sounds like the start of a quirky band joke. But no, it’s legit, and it works. Now, I gotta say, the two tracks that stuck with me are “Tomahawk War Dance” and “The Theme Song.” First up, “Tomahawk War Dance”—oh man, this one’s wild in the best way. It’s got this playful energy, like someone handed a bunch of kids toy drums and told them to go nuts. There’s a rhythm to it that feels kinda hypnotic, but not in a “I’m falling asleep” way. More like, “I wanna grab a stick and pretend I’m in the Wild West” kind of vibe. It’s simple, sure, but it’s also the kind of thing that gets stuck in your head for days. Then there’s “The Theme Song,” which is exactly what you’d want from a Disney-inspired tune. It’s cheerful, easy to hum along to, and just oozes that wholesome, old-school Disney magic. You can almost picture kids gathered around a record player (yeah, I said it, a record player) in their pajamas, pretending they’re cowboys or pioneers. It’s short, sweet, and leaves you smiling. What I love about this album is how unpretentious it feels. It doesn’t try too hard to be fancy or overproduced. Instead, it leans into its roots as a kids’ album and delivers fun, catchy tunes that feel like they belong at a backyard campfire or a school play. Sure, it’s not gonna win a Grammy, but who cares? It’s got heart, and sometimes that’s all you need. You know, reviewing this album made me realize something kinda funny. Music like this—simple, nostalgic, and full of joy—isn’t really made anymore. These days, everything’s so polished and layered, but Tonka reminds me that sometimes all you need is a good beat and a story to tell. Plus, listening to it made me want to dig out my old Tonka truck and pretend I’m ten again. Not sure if that’s a good thing or a bad thing, but hey, life’s too short not to enjoy a little childhood magic now and then.
