Album Review: "Royalty" by Antiseen – A Raw, Unapologetic Rock Gem Released in 2018, Royalty is a garage rock and punk-infused hard rock EP that captures the raw energy Antiseen has been known for since their inception. Hailing from the US, this six-track powerhouse (with some reprises) delivers grit, attitude, and authenticity—qualities often missing in today's overly produced music scene. Backed by TKO Records and Death Train Music, Royalty feels like a love letter to rebellious spirits everywhere. The lineup behind this beast includes Jeff Clayton on vocals, Joe Young shredding guitar duties, Marlon Cherry holding down basslines, and Doug Throgmorton pounding the drums. Together, they create an unpolished yet magnetic sound that grabs you by the collar and doesn’t let go. Two tracks stand out immediately: “N.C. Royalty” and “Ruby, Ruby, Get Back To The Hills.” Listening to “N.C. Royalty,” it’s hard not to feel its punchy swagger—it’s got this driving rhythm that makes your head nod involuntarily. Clayton’s raspy delivery paired with Young’s crunchy riffs creates a vibe that screams Southern defiance. It’s catchy but dangerous, like sneaking into a whiskey-soaked dive bar where everyone knows the words to the fight song playing over the jukebox. Meanwhile, “Ruby, Ruby, Get Back To The Hills” takes things up a notch with its relentless pace and infectious chorus. There’s something about how the track blends punk urgency with bluesy undertones that sticks with you long after the needle lifts off the record. What makes Royalty work so well is its lack of pretense. This isn’t music made for Spotify playlists; it’s made for sweaty venues and late-night drives. Tracks like “Mill Working Man (Psychout Version)” and “She’s Part Of The Scene” showcase the band’s versatility without losing sight of their roots. Sure, there are moments when the production feels rough around the edges—but honestly? That’s part of the charm. You can tell these guys aren’t doing it for fame or fortune; they’re just doing what comes naturally. One thing worth noting is the lyrical themes. Whether it’s railing against societal norms (“Can’t Touch Me There”) or painting vivid pictures of working-class struggles (“Mill Working Man”), Antiseen manages to balance personal storytelling with universal resonance. It’s refreshing in an era where many artists seem more focused on crafting viral hits than saying something meaningful. If I had one critique, it’d be that some tracks could benefit from tighter editing. Songs like “Cop Out” hit hard but maybe linger a little too long. Still, even those minor flaws add character to the overall experience. After all, perfection can sometimes feel sterile—and Royalty is anything but sterile. In reflecting on this EP, what strikes me most is its timelessness. While clearly rooted in classic rock traditions, Royalty feels as relevant today as it would have back in the heyday of '70s punk. Maybe that’s why it stuck with me. Or maybe it’s because listening to it feels like having a conversation with someone who doesn’t sugarcoat life’s harsh realities. Either way, it’s real. And here’s the unexpected kicker: despite being called Royalty, this EP isn’t about crowns or thrones—it’s about earning respect through sheer force of will. In a world obsessed with image, Antiseen reminds us that true royalty comes from staying true to yourself. And damn, does it sound good.

Interesting fact about Album

Here’s a fun fact: The Antiseen album *Royalty* is like a gritty love letter to raw, unfiltered rock. It blends garage rock, hard rock, and punk into a chaotic mix that feels rebellious and real. Released in 2018 under TKO Records and Death Train Music, the album packs tracks with bold names like "White Trash Bitch" and "Million Bucks." What’s wild is that the band recorded two versions of some songs—like "NC Royalty" and "Mill Working Man (Psychout Version)"—giving fans a chance to hear the same story told in two different moods. With Jeff Clayton’s raspy vocals and Joe Young’s shredding guitar, it’s no wonder this U.S.-born record still resonates with rock lovers who crave authenticity.
