Album Review: Pray (Empty Gun) by Bishop Briggs Alright, let’s talk about Bishop Briggs’ debut EP, Pray (Empty Gun). Released back in 2016, this little gem blends Electronic vibes with Pop/Rock energy and a dash of Indie Pop charm. It’s the kind of project that feels like it was made for late-night drives or those moments when you just need something raw to vibe to. The album came out under Teleport Records and hit listeners across the USA, Canada, and Europe, so yeah, it had some global love right from the start. Now, I gotta say, the title track, “Pray (Empty Gun),” is unforgettable. Like, how does she make desperation sound so catchy? The song starts off with this haunting piano melody, and then BOOM—her voice comes in, all raspy and powerful. You can feel every ounce of emotion she’s pouring into it. There’s this rawness to her delivery, like she’s not holding anything back. By the time the beat drops and the synths kick in, you’re hooked. It’s one of those tracks where you think, “Wait, is this pop or alternative?” Honestly, who cares? It just works. Another standout for me is “Wild Horses.” (Okay, technically it wasn’t on this EP, but it fits the same era and tone, so roll with me here.) This tune has this driving rhythm that makes you wanna stomp your feet or maybe even scream along if you’re feeling dramatic. Her lyrics are simple but punchy, and there’s this rebel spirit running through it that sticks with you long after the song ends. What I love most about this EP is how Bishop Briggs doesn’t try too hard to be perfect. Her voice cracks sometimes, and the production isn’t overly polished—it’s real. And honestly, that’s what makes it memorable. In a world full of overproduced pop songs, Pray (Empty Gun) feels refreshing, almost like a deep breath of cold air on a winter morning. So yeah, if you haven’t given this one a spin yet, do yourself a favor and check it out. Just don’t blame me if you end up blasting “Pray (Empty Gun)” on repeat while pretending you’re starring in your own moody indie film. Oh, and fun fact: Bishop Briggs actually wrote this stuff before she blew up, which kinda makes listening to it feel like discovering a secret time capsule of her artistry. Cool, huh?
