Album Review: God Made Man For Stand For Himself – A Roots Reggae Gem from 2014 Alright, let’s talk about God Made Man For Stand For Himself, the 2014 reggae album by Cornell Campbell, Leroy Mafia ft The Digikal All Roots, Top Cat, and Tenor Fly. Released under the UK-based label Digikal, this project is a solid slice of roots reggae vibes that’ll have you nodding your head and zoning out in equal measure. It’s not trying to reinvent the wheel or anything, but man, it does what it does really well. First off, the title track “God Made Man For Stand For Himself” hits hard right outta the gate. It’s one of those tunes where the lyrics kinda slap you awake—you know? The message feels raw and unfiltered, like someone sitting you down and saying, "Yo, life ain’t easy, but you gotta hold your own." Cornell Campbell’s vocals are smooth as butter, while the backing harmonies add this rich layer that just sticks with you. I remembered this track days later because it felt real—like something my granddad might’ve played on repeat back in the day. Then there’s “Ganja Alone,” which, yeah, you can guess what it’s about. But it’s more than just another weed anthem. The rhythm is so laid-back it practically begs you to chill, light up (if that’s your thing), and reflect on life for a sec. What got me was how catchy the hook was—it’s one of those earworms that sneaks into your brain and refuses to leave. Plus, the production has this earthy vibe, all warm basslines and crisp drums, making it perfect for late-night sessions or even just cruising around town. The other tracks like “No Negative Vibes” and “Cherry Blossom Melody” keep the energy flowing too. They’re not as standout as the first two, but they bring their own charm. You can tell everyone involved poured their soul into this record—it’s got that authentic reggae spirit without feeling forced or overproduced. What’s wild is how an album from 2014 still feels fresh today. Maybe it’s because roots reggae doesn’t try too hard to be trendy—it’s timeless. Or maybe it’s just that good music always finds its way back to you when you least expect it. Either way, God Made Man For Stand For Himself deserves a spot in any reggae lover’s collection. Oh, and here’s a random thought—this album makes me wanna grow a beard and move to Jamaica. Like, seriously. Who else gets that urge after listening to reggae? No? Just me? Cool, cool.
