The Dave Clark Five - Glad All Over Bits And Pieces

Glad All Over Bits And Pieces: A Timeless Pop Rock Gem That Still Kicks Alright, let’s talk about Glad All Over Bits And Pieces by The Dave Clark Five. Released in 1993 (yeah, I know, it's a compilation, but stick with me), this album is like that old pair of jeans you can’t throw out—comfortable, familiar, and somehow still cool after all these years. With genres spanning Pop and Rock and a style firmly planted in Pop Rock, it's got enough energy to wake up your lazy Sunday mornings and enough nostalgia to make you miss the days when mixtapes were actually on tapes. First off, the tracks. You’ve got “Glad All Over,” which is basically the soundtrack to every triumphant moment ever. Whether you’re walking into a room feeling like you own the place or just trying to psyche yourself up for another boring work meeting, this song has your back. It’s punchy, upbeat, and those drums? Iconic. Dave Clark didn’t just produce this thing; he wrote it too, and you can tell he poured his heart into making something that sticks. Honestly, if this track doesn’t get stuck in your head after one listen, check your pulse—you might be a robot. Then there’s “Bits And Pieces.” This one’s sneakier. At first glance, it feels like your standard pop-rock bop, but give it a minute. There’s something raw about the lyrics, almost like they’re sneaking little life lessons between the beats. Plus, the harmonies are so smooth they could sell ice cream in winter. I remember blasting this in my car once during a road trip, windows down, wind messing up my hair—and suddenly realizing why people say music makes everything better. It’s not rocket science; it’s just good vibes wrapped in guitar riffs. The fact that this album came out via labels like Hollywood Records, Capitol Records, and even EMI Electrola shows how universal its appeal was. From the US to Germany to Canada, folks couldn’t get enough of DC5’s signature sound. And honestly? They weren’t wrong. Dave Clark wore multiple hats here—producer, writer, visionary—and pulled it off without breaking a sweat. Sure, some critics might call it formulaic, but who cares? Sometimes formulas exist because they work. Here’s the kicker though: listening to this album today feels kind of surreal. Like finding an old photo of yourself from high school—it’s both familiar and slightly alien. You realize how much music has changed since then, yet songs like “Glad All Over” refuse to fade away. Maybe that’s what makes it special. Or maybe it’s just proof that catchy tunes never really go out of style. Final thought? If aliens landed tomorrow and asked us to explain human emotions through music, I’d hand them this album. Then again, knowing my luck, they’d probably prefer jazz. Go figure.

What a sound and the electric guitars don't even seem to have leads plugged into amplifiers.
Did they have radio transmitter devices in those days.? Hahaha.

Paul McCartney said in an interview that the Beetles were concerned about the Dave Clark Five because they were very comparable and almost as popular as the Beetles. The British Invasion was really for real.

Saw this song on a list of music banned by US radio stations after 9/11, and I was confused because, based on my vague memory, there was nothing harmful about the song at all. Listening to it now...yeah, I can kinda see where they're coming from.

Circa 1980, a local theater had midnight shows of old music videos (were they call videos back then?) When this was shown, everyone in the theater stomped their feet along with the Dave Clark Five. I was 17 and sort of impressed that they knew a song from 16 years earlier....no clue then that 16 years is no time at all.

Harsh reality that the DC5, Gerry and the pacemakers, the zombies, the Hollies, the Stones and every other British rock and roll band of that era would never have left the UK had it not been for the Beatles.
