Album Review: twenty27seven by 27 – A Gritty Indie Rock Gem from Austria Alright, let’s talk about twenty27seven by 27. This album dropped back in 2012 under Noise Appeal Records, and it’s one of those records that kinda sneaks up on you. You know, the kind where you’re not expecting much at first but then BAM—it hits different after a couple listens. It’s got that raw indie rock vibe, with just enough edge to keep things interesting. First off, I gotta shout out “In A Perfect World - Re-Spin.” Man, this track is stuck in my head like an old meme. The guitar riff? Super catchy. Like, you’ll find yourself humming it while waiting for your coffee or something. But what really makes it stand out is how laid-back yet punchy it feels. It’s not trying too hard to impress anyone, which honestly makes it even cooler. There’s this breezy confidence to it, like they knew exactly what they were doing without overthinking it. And the lyrics? Simple but relatable. Kinda reminds me of staring out a car window on a road trip, thinking about life stuff you probably shouldn’t be stressing over. Then there’s “Man On Wire - Re-Wire,” which slaps in a totally different way. This one has more grit and intensity. The drums hit harder, and the vocals have this raspy energy that grabs your attention right away. It’s the type of song you’d crank up when you need a little boost before doing something reckless—like finally cleaning out your closet or calling someone you haven’t talked to in years. What sticks with me most is the build-up near the end. It’s chaotic in the best possible way, like everything’s falling apart but also coming together all at once. Feels cathartic, ya know? The whole album leans into that indie rock aesthetic pretty heavily, but it never feels forced. It’s clear these guys are just doing their thing, no big fuss. Coming out of Austria, which isn’t exactly known as a hotspot for rock music, makes it feel even fresher. Like, who expects this level of cool from a small European country? Not me, apparently. If I had to nitpick, some tracks blend together a bit too much, and you might zone out halfway through if you’re not paying attention. But honestly, that’s part of its charm. It doesn’t demand your full focus; instead, it lets you drift along until something sharp pulls you back in. So yeah, twenty27seven might not change your life or anything, but it’s solid. Solid enough to make you wonder why 27 didn’t blow up bigger. Honestly, listening to this feels like finding a hidden gem in a thrift store—you didn’t go looking for it, but now you can’t imagine life without it. Or maybe that’s just me being overly sentimental. Either way, good job, Austria. Didn’t see that coming.
