Nocturnal Recognition by DJ Wank: A Techno Acid Trip You Can’t Ignore Alright, let’s get straight to it. Nocturnal Recognition is one of those albums that grabs you by the throat and doesn’t let go until your ears are ringing and your brain feels like it’s overclocked on caffeine. Released in 2019 under Italy’s Rawthing label, this thing slaps harder than most techno records out there. It's raw, gritty, and unapologetically acid-drenched—exactly what you’d expect from a dude named DJ Wank (yeah, I said it). The album swings between straight-up bangers and moody soundscapes, but two tracks really stick with me for different reasons. First up, “Pneumethorax (The Southern Remix).” Holy crap, this track hits like a punch to the gut. If you’ve ever been at a rave where everyone’s losing their minds, this is the anthem they’re probably playing. The bassline growls so low it might as well be illegal, while the high-pitched acid squelches cut through the mix like a rusty knife. This isn’t just music; it’s an assault on your senses. Every time I hear it, I’m transported back to some sweaty basement club where the air smells like stale cigarettes and spilled beer. And honestly? That’s not a bad place to be. Then there’s “Bells Of Recognition,” which flips the script entirely. Instead of going full throttle, this one creeps in slow, building tension like a horror movie soundtrack. Those bells? They’re haunting as hell, echoing around your skull like ghosts trying to communicate from another dimension. By the time the beat drops, you’re already hooked, sucked into its hypnotic rhythm. It’s the kind of track that makes you stare off into space, zoning out completely even if you're standing in the middle of a packed dance floor. DJ Wank didn’t mess around here. He gave us something dark, dirty, and dangerously addictive. Sure, the album has other solid tunes like “Nocturnal Monologue” and its remixes, but these two tracks hit hardest. They remind you why electronic music exists—to take you somewhere else, even if that somewhere else is a little messed up. Here’s the kicker though: after listening to Nocturnal Recognition, I couldn’t help but wonder—does DJ Wank actually sleep? Because this album sounds like the product of someone who spends all night staring at shadows, tweaking knobs, and chasing sounds no human should logically be able to create. Maybe that’s why it works so damn well. Either way, crank this up loud, lose yourself, and thank me later.
