Solsbury Hill Remixes by Erasure: A Synth-Pop Gem That Still Shines (Kinda) Alright, so let’s talk about Solsbury Hill Remixes by Erasure. Released back in 2003 under the Mute label, this little EP is like that one friend who shows up uninvited but ends up being the life of the party. It’s not perfect, but it’s got enough charm to stick with you. First off, the genre and style are classic Erasure—electronic beats with a heavy dose of synth-pop magic. You’ve got Andy Bell and Vince Clarke doing their thing, along with Gareth Jones on production duties. These guys basically invented the blueprint for catchy electronic music, and this remix EP proves they weren’t done experimenting even after all those years. Standout Tracks Let’s dive into two tracks that really stood out for me. 1. "Solsbury Hill (37B Mix)" Okay, so this version? It’s wild. Like, imagine Peter Gabriel’s original track got zapped by a neon laser beam from the future. The build-up is slow at first, teasing you with these lush synths before slamming you with an energy boost that just screams early 2000s dance floor vibes. I remember hearing this mix somewhere randomly—maybe at a club or on some dodgy internet playlist—and thinking, “Whoa, what IS this?” There’s something hypnotic about how the melody loops around your brain, refusing to let go. 2. "Ave Maria" Now this one feels kinda different compared to the rest of the EP. It’s more subdued, almost haunting. If you’re expecting another banger, you might be thrown off at first. But honestly, that’s why it sticks with me. The vocals feel ethereal, like they’re floating above the instrumentation instead of competing with it. Plus, there’s this weird emotional undertone that makes you stop whatever you’re doing and just listen. Not gonna lie, I played this late one night while staring out my window pretending to have deep thoughts. Cheesy? Maybe. Effective? Absolutely. Other Bits Worth Mentioning The artwork by A Plus+ Limited is pretty slick too—nothing groundbreaking, but it fits the vibe. And shoutout to Mike Marsh for mastering because, dude, everything sounds crisp without being overdone. Also, props to MPP Image Creation for the photography; it ties the whole package together nicely. Final Thoughts So yeah, Solsbury Hill Remixes isn’t gonna change your life or anything, but it’s a fun little detour if you’re into Erasure or just love good synth-heavy tunes. Honestly, listening to this EP again made me realize how much we take for granted when it comes to remix culture today. Back then, remixes felt fresh and daring—not just lazy rehashes designed to squeeze extra cash outta fans. Oh, and here’s the random thought I promised: If aliens ever landed on Earth and asked us to explain human emotions through music, I’d hand them this EP. They’d probably get confused, fly away, and come back centuries later asking where all the synthesizers went. Rating: 7/10 – Solid effort, guys. Keep the lasers charged.

Climbing up on Solsbury Hill
I could see the city light
Wind was blowing, time stood still
Eagle flew out of the night

He was something to observe
Came in close, I heard a voice
Standing stretching every nerve
I had to listen had no choice

I did not believe the information
Just had to trust imagination
My heart was going boom boom boom
“Son,” he said, “Grab your things, I’ve come to take you home”

To keeping silence I resigned
My friends would think I was a nut
Turning water into wine
Open doors would soon be shut

So I went from day to day
Though my life was in a rut
‘Till I thought of what I’d say
Which connection I should cut

I was feeling part of the scenery
I walked right out of the machinery
My heart was going boom boom boom
“Son, “ he said, “Grab your things, I’ve come to take you home”
Yeah back home

When illusion spin her net
I’m never where I want to be
And Liberty she pirouette
When I think that I am free

Watched by empty silhouettes
Who close their eyes, but still can see
No one taught them etiquette
I will show another me

Today I don’t need a replacement
I’ll tell them what the smile on my face meant
My heart was going boom boom boom
“Hey, “I said “ You can keep my things, they’ve come to take me home”

I love this version... I used to live around the corner from Peter Gabriel so the orinal was always touching because Salzburg hill is near by too.... ? My wife did some architectural work for and and said he was a really nice guy.... I'd love to have met him... OR Erasure... These guys are in my top three favourites from the 80s.... ??

Changing the majority of the song to 4/4 time ruins it for me.
