Review by John Schindler

Album Review: Schlange by Godzilla's Dimension Alright, let’s talk about Schlange by Godzilla's Dimension. This 1998 Austrian gem is a wild mix of Hip Hop and Rock with some Nu Metal and Funk Metal vibes thrown in for good measure. Released under "Not On Label," it feels like the kind of project that didn’t care much about fitting into any box—which honestly makes it stand out even more. First off, I gotta say this album has personality. Like, loads of it. Tracks like “Brachial” hit hard right from the start—you can feel the raw energy bursting through your speakers. It’s one of those songs where you’re not sure if you wanna headbang or just scream along to the lyrics. The blend of crunchy guitar riffs and rap-style verses keeps things fresh, and trust me, once that chorus kicks in, you won’t forget it anytime soon. There’s something almost primal about how unapologetic it is. Then there’s “Happy Hour.” Yeah, don’t let the name fool ya—it ain’t all sunshine and cocktails. This track flips between heavy grooves and these weirdly catchy hooks that stick in your brain like gum on a shoe. What gets me every time is how they balance aggression with moments of pure funkiness. You know when you hear a bassline so smooth it makes you wanna strut around like you own the place? That’s “Happy Hour” in a nutshell. Plus, the lyrics are kinda quirky, which gives it this unexpected charm. The rest of the album follows suit—tracks like “Suicide,” “Respect,” and “Jörgl’s Freunde” keep the momentum going without ever feeling repetitive. Each song brings its own flavor to the table, whether it’s slamming drums or clever wordplay. And props to them for naming a track “No Hard Drugs”—you’d think it’d be preachy, but nah, it’s just straight-up banger material. What really sticks with me about Schlange is how authentic it feels. These guys weren’t chasing trends; they were doing their own thing, loud and proud. Austria might not be the first place you think of when it comes to Nu Metal or Funk Metal, but maybe that’s why this album works so well. It’s got grit, heart, and zero fucks to give. Oh, and here’s a random thought: listening to this album feels like hanging out with someone who tells wild stories at a party—you’re never quite sure what’s coming next, but you’re always entertained. So yeah, check out Schlange. Just don’t blame me if you end up playing “Brachial” on repeat for days.

Interesting fact about Album

Here’s a fun fact: In 1998, an Austrian band called Godzilla's Dimension released an album titled *Schlange*. It’s a wild mix of Hip Hop, Rock, Nu Metal, and Funk Metal. The album was so underground that it didn’t even have a proper label—just "Not On Label." Tracks like "Brachial" and "Happy Hour" show off their unique blend of heavy riffs and quirky energy. Not your typical metal album, but definitely one to check out if you're into something different!
