Album Review: Fooling Around Dooleys Breakdown by Jedd Raleigh And The Country CutUps Jedd Raleigh And The Country CutUps deliver a rollicking ride through bluegrass tradition with their album Fooling Around Dooleys Breakdown. Released under Jalyn Records and produced by the seasoned Jack Lynch, this project is steeped in the roots of Folk, World, & Country music but shines brightest when it leans into its bluegrass soul. Hailing from the US, the band brings authenticity to every track, blending technical skill with raw storytelling that feels both familiar and fresh. Two tracks stand out as highlights—“Dooley’s Breakdown” and “Fooling Around.” In “Dooley’s Breakdown,” listeners are treated to an instrumental showcase that proves why bluegrass lives or dies on musicianship. The banjo work here is nothing short of electrifying (yeah, I said electrifying for a genre without amps). It dances around fiddle runs so tight you’d swear they were born playing together. You don’t just hear this song; you feel it buzzing in your bones like caffeine hitting after a long night. Then there’s “Fooling Around,” which flips the vibe entirely. This one slows things down just enough to let the lyrics breathe. It's easy to imagine sitting on a porch somewhere while Jedd sings about love gone wrong—or maybe right? The harmonies hit hard, almost making you forget how simple the arrangement really is. By the second chorus, you're humming along, even if you didn’t mean to. That’s the magic trick of good songwriting—it sneaks up on ya. What makes this album stick isn’t perfection—it’s personality. Producer Jack Lynch clearly understood not to polish off the rough edges too much. Those little quirks give the record its charm. There’s no auto-tune hiding imperfections here, thank goodness. Instead, what we get is real people pouring their hearts into something timeless yet grounded. If I had to nitpick—and hey, nobody asked me to—I might say some transitions between tracks could flow better. But honestly? That feels kinda beside the point. What matters most is that Fooling Around Dooleys Breakdown reminds us why bluegrass still matters today. It’s not flashy or trendy, but dangit, it’s alive. And isn’t that wild? A bunch of folks picking strings and singing tales can make you stop scrolling TikTok for once. Who knew?

Hi James , my father in in law Bob Dooley was the fiddle player on this ,and also the one who wrote it. Just wondering where you you found it. Are you from Alabama? His daughter is my wife Sheila Dooley.
