Album Review: Ouvertüren Nr2 H moll Nr3 D dur by Johann Sebastian Bach Alright, let’s dive into this absolute gem of a record. It’s Ouvertüren Nr2 H moll Nr3 D dur by the one and only Johann Sebastian Bach, brought to life by some serious heavyweights in the classical world—Karl Richter leading the Münchener Bach-Orchester, Aurèle Nicolet on flute, and Adolf Scherbaum rocking that trumpet. This is Baroque music at its finest, straight outta Germany, with Archiv Produktion handling the release. The vibe here? Pure class. The album's got all your faves like "Badinerie," "Gigue," and "Air"—those tracks everyone knows even if they don’t know they know ‘em. But two tracks really stuck with me after giving it a few spins: “Badinerie” and “Air.” First up, “Badinerie.” Oh man, this thing slaps (in a very refined, 18th-century way). Aurèle Nicolet just goes off on the flute—it’s playful but sharp, kinda like watching someone juggle knives while dancing. You can tell he’s having fun, and honestly? It makes you wanna join in. There’s something about how tight the orchestra is behind him too; Karl Richter keeps everything crisp without ever stepping on Nicolet’s toes. Every time I hear it, I’m reminded why Bach still rules playlists centuries later. Then there’s “Air,” which hits different. If “Badinerie” feels like a party trick, “Air” is more like sitting by an open window during golden hour, letting the music wash over you. The strings are lush but not overdone, each note hanging in the air long enough for you to soak it in before moving on. It’s peaceful but not boring—you feel like Bach’s inviting you to slow down and breathe for a sec. Honestly, it’s the kind of track that makes me wish I owned a fancy armchair and could sip tea like a proper intellectual. One thing I gotta shout out is the production quality. For a recording from back in the day, W.A. Wettler did wonders as the engineer. The sound is clean, warm, and totally immersive. And props to Lutz Bode for the art direction—it matches the vibe perfectly, classy but not stuffy. Now here’s the random thought I had while listening: Why don’t we use terms like “Menuett” or “Sarabande” anymore? Like, imagine saying, “Hey, wanna grab coffee and listen to some sick Gavottes?” Feels like we missed a chance to make old-school dance names cool again. Anyway, wrapping this up—this album is legit. Whether you’re deep into Baroque or just need something chill yet brilliant in the background, Ouvertüren Nr2 H moll Nr3 D dur delivers. Just don’t blame me when you start humming “Badinerie” everywhere you go.

About Johann Sebastian Bach Aurèle Nicolet Adolf Scherbaum Münchener BachOrchester Karl Richter

Johann Sebastian Bach was born on March 21, 1685 in Eisenach, Thuringia, Germany. A prolific German composer and organist, his sacred and secular works for choir, orchestra and solo instruments drew together the strands of the baroque genre and brought it to its ultimate maturity. Although he introduced no new forms, he enriched the prevailing German style with a robust contrapuntal technique, a control of harmonic and motivic organisation from the smallest to the largest scales, and the adaptation of rhythms and textures from abroad, particularly Italy and France. Many people consider him to be the greatest Baroque composer, and one of the greatest composers of all time. Revered for their intellectual depth, technical command and artistic beauty, J.S. Bach's works include the Brandenburg concertos, the keyboard suites and partitas, the Mass in B Minor, the St. Matthew Passion, The Musical Offering, The Art of Fugue and a large number of cantatas, of which about 220 survive. He died on July 28, 1750. Some of his sons also became composers - , , and .
