Led Zeppelin - Vienna 1973

Led Zeppelin’s Vienna 1973: A Bootleg Beast That Kicks Ass Alright, let’s get one thing straight—this ain’t no studio masterpiece. Vienna 1973 is raw, uncut, and dripping with the kind of energy that only comes from a live show where the band doesn’t give a damn about perfection. Released in ’97 (yeah, decades later), this Japanese bootleg captures Led Zeppelin at their most untamed. Classic rock? Hell yeah. Polished? Not even close. And honestly, that’s what makes it so damn good. First off, can we talk about “Dazed and Confused”? This track hits like a freight train on steroids. Jimmy Page rips into his guitar like he’s trying to summon demons, while John Bonham’s drumming feels like it might collapse the building. The version here clocks in at over 20 minutes, but trust me, you won’t notice. It’s not just a song—it’s an experience. You’re not listening; you’re living through every screeching bow-slide solo and thunderous beat. By the time they bring it back around to the main riff, your brain will be mush. In the best way possible. Then there’s “Stairway to Heaven.” Yeah, yeah, I know—it’s overplayed as hell. But this live rendition? Completely different beast. Robert Plant sounds like he’s channeling some ancient forest spirit, and Page’s solo cuts deeper than ever before. When the crowd starts cheering midway through, it’s electric. Like, throw-your-phone-and-just-feel-it electric. Even if you’ve heard this song a thousand times, this performance punches you right in the soul. The rest of the setlist reads like a greatest-hits playlist on steroids: “Whole Lotta Love,” “Black Dog,” “Heartbreaker”—you name it. They tear through these tracks like they’re running out of time, and maybe they were. There’s no fancy production tricks, no auto-tune nonsense. Just four guys playing harder than anyone else could dream of. Here’s the kicker though: why did this come out in Japan in ’97? Who knows. Maybe someone found an old tape under their couch or something. But screw it—that’s part of the charm. This album isn’t for purists who want everything shiny and perfect. It’s for fans who wanna hear Led Zeppelin sweat, bleed, and burn onstage. And hey, here’s a thought to chew on: maybe the imperfections are what make this record unforgettable. Screw polished recordings—sometimes you just need chaos wrapped in genius.

Interesting fact about Album

Here’s something cool: The album *Vienna 1973* by Led Zeppelin wasn’t officially released until 1997, over two decades after the actual concert took place. It’s a bootleg recording from one of their legendary live performances in Japan. Fans went nuts when it finally surfaced because it included epic tracks like "Stairway to Heaven" and "Whole Lotta Love." What makes it even more special is that it captures the raw energy of their live shows, which many say can’t be matched in studio recordings. Definitely a must-listen for any classic rock fan!

Hmm… that Heartbreaker opening riff. Compare it to Montreux 1970 for instance. Does it not sound at least a distant relative?

So awsome...my father was on that show,he was in the second row, lucky bastard. So sad he doesent appreciate that kind of music,he's more in to jazz and stuff...anyway,great show, great set list and BIG thanks for the upload! Cheers from Croatia!

Fun fact: dad told that the crowd was cheering at the end demanding encore, but the zepps refused to go on the stage,so the crowd protested and smashed the chairs they were sitting on (back then, concerts looked and were considered like performances of art,so people used to sit on their chairs the entire show like they would in theatre for example)

Man this is terrific. For those that were lucky enough to see them during this period.....can i assume that live the sound was even better? There are times on some boots the sound is rather dry. I’m assuming live it must have been much different.
