Review by Chad Torrington

Album Review: "Listen To Mama" by Walker Man – A Genre-Blending Sonic Adventure Alright, let me just say this straight off the bat—Walker Man’s Listen To Mama is one of those albums that sneaks up on you. It’s not perfect, but dang if it doesn’t make you feel something. Released under Rema Records, this thing blends Electronic, Hip Hop, Reggae, and even dashes of RnB/Swing into a wild mixtape for your ears. Tracks like “Listen To Mama (Vocal)” and “Listen To Mama (Curtis Lynch Jnr Remix)” are burned into my brain now, and here's why. First up, the OG track, “Listen To Mama (Vocal).” This tune hits different because it feels like Walker Man is talking directly to YOU. The Ragga HipHop vibes slap hard, with lyrics that sound like advice from someone who knows better than you do. Like, literally, LISTEN TO YOUR MAMA already. The beat has this gritty bounce to it, kinda ragged around the edges but smooth enough to keep your head nodding. And when that chorus kicks in? Whew. Feels like being hugged by an old friend while also getting scolded at the same time. Weird combo, I know, but trust me—it works. Then there’s the “Curtis Lynch Jnr Remix.” Oh man, this version flips the script completely. If the original was your mom yelling at you to clean your room, this remix is her handing you headphones so y’all can vibe together instead. Curtis brings out more of the Big Beat and Breakbeat elements, layering in these crunchy drums and synth lines that just explode in all the right places. There’s this moment halfway through where everything drops except for this hypnotic bassline—it’s like the floor falls out beneath you, but in the best way possible. You’re left floating, wondering how he pulled that off without breaking the flow. The rest of the album keeps things interesting too. Whether it’s the chill instrumental versions or the untitled mix that throws curveballs every few bars, Walker Man makes sure no two tracks feel the same. But honestly? Those two songs stuck with me the most. Maybe it’s the raw emotion behind them, or maybe it’s just how they refuse to sit still in any one genre box. Whatever it is, it lingers. Here’s the thing though…as much as I loved listening to this record, it made me think about how we don’t listen enough—to music, to people, to ourselves. Like, yeah, the title says "Listen To Mama," but really, it’s bigger than that. When was the last time you actually stopped and heard what life’s been trying to tell you? Food for thought, huh? Anyway, check out Listen To Mama. Just don’t blame me if it messes with your playlist rotation forever.

I don't like Matt Habgood. He doesn't want to hear about little white girls and eyeshadow and Chloe-Mai Brown at my old school called 'aldersley high school'. He doesn't mind hearing about Sadie Blood Granny Stalkey (her real name is Sadie Beatrice Staley) at my old school.
